Texas Democratic Senate Nominee James Talarico broke his silence on his two-week hiatus this afternoon in interviews with NBC and MS Now, swearing that he “just had the flu” as claims that he was suffering a mental health episode continue to circulate.
The Gateway Pundit reported earlier on allegations that Talarico was admitted to a mental institution in Ohio during his mysterious absence. An employee at the Lindner Center of HOPE in Mason, Ohio, allegedly confirmed on Saturday during a recorded phone call that Talarico had been “just discharged” from the facility. However, Talarico’s team denied the claim, saying “Talarico was home in Austin, Texas recovering from the flu.”
Talarico previously claimed, from a hotel room somewhere, that he had been diagnosed with a flu so bad that he went to an urgent care in Dallas during a virtual appearance at a United States Hispanic Business Council forum on September 30.
"I was starting to feel kind of under the weather a few days ago, and last night it got so bad that I went to the urgent care here in Dallas," he said. "And I was diagnosed with the flu, and so uh I'm running a fever, and I'm my most contagious uh right now."
Now, he's changed his story, saying, "I just went to my primary care physician, but it wasn't anything worse than, you know, a nasty case of the flu." So, was it urgent care in Dallas or a primary care physician at his home in Austin?

MUST LISTEN: James Talarico can’t keep his lies straight. First he went to urgent care in Dallas… Today, he stated he went to his primary care physician in Austin.
Not fit! Time to step down and withdraw from the Senate race. https://t.co/y08rFB1afY— Chad Ledger (@TheChadLedger) October 11, 2026
How many of us get treatment for the flu at a Mental Hospital? This smells worse than last week’s fish.
“MUST LISTEN: James Talarico can’t keep his lies straight. ...”
Not sure it matters. Those that vote blue, vote blue no matter who. As for the Independents, they are just shy Democrats.
Who would have thought that Talarico could have mental health issues?
If it was just the flu, why didn’t he say that at the time he was there?
If it was just the flu, why didn’t he say that at the time he was there?
Talarico and his campaign are locked into the flu story now. The mainstream media diligently did its part to put that story out there, and his campaign team has tried to deflect questions. There are a couple real oddities about this:
1) Why didn’t his team talk about him being laid up with the flu during the 12-13 days he was off the campaign trail? They all grew quiet, probably hoping no one would ask.
2) Is the phone call with the woman confirming that Talarico had been discharged from the mental health facility real?
3) Recent Democrat internal polling shows Paxton ahead by 3 points, so Republicans would have no reason to start a rumor like this. They were leading. Did Talarico’s team try to lay a trap?
4) This article talks about Talarico changing his story about where he went to find out he had the flu. Why change the story?
At this point it doesn’t matter where he was. The Dems are stuck on stupid...........
It doesn’t matter for those who vote blue. It matter for everyone carrying water for Talarico around here - the first the scream bloody murder when McConnell was in the hospital.
Could be both. My experience is when you call your PCP about something and they cannot see you, they invariably tell you to either come in or go to ER. If he had high fever and other symptoms the PCP wouild want him to e checked out.
Right there, Ken Paxton has irrefutable proof, based on facts released by the Ohio mental hospital, that Talarico was is in that facility.
Moreover, it is clear, that Talarico signed a HIPPA Release to permit the Ohio mental hospital to release his medical records.
What phone call? Do you have a link? Can I hear it?
I do not disagree with you about many Independents being shy Dems or just wishy washy. Meaning, I know people who makes a lot of money and pay a lot of taxes BUT they absolutely HATE politics. Many of those Independents do not vote in mid term elections.
So, this mid term is more about TURN OUT. Are the Dems more motivated to turn out their base and drag some the Dem Lights to the polls OR can the GOP get the people who are pissed about taxation(even local) to show up to vote?
Using Clinton-speak, maybe he was untreatable.
“So, this mid term is more about TURN OUT. ... “
I never understood those that don’t vote. I vote in every election, no matter how small. I’ve voted where there were just a handful of items on the ballot. If you’re conservative, not voting is the same as voting commie.
Do you watch the video in which Talarico stated that he WENT to his primary care physician? So it was NOT a case where his PCP couldn't see him so had to check himself into ER.
I do think there’s got to be more “there”, there with El Freako —
But this was a disaster. The online grifters behind this SPECIFIC story is a bingo card of prior convictions for fraud and the like. It didn’t make sense with the timeline, even before this.
And now, the problem is pretty simply ‘boy cried wolf’ stuff.
I roll my eyes whenever someone claims 4-D chess crap - Occam’s Razor needs to be back in fashion - but these sorts of grifters have been prowling the digital waters for suckers with money and likes for a long time now.
I might be able to see a setup as feasible - hide something real by FIRST “using” such trolls to push an easily debunked specific.
