Yemeni government forces claimed on Monday to have retaken control of key positions near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a vital chokepoint for global trade, as they launch a renewed campaign to roll back recent gains made by the Iran-backed Houthi movement.
Military spokesperson Majid Al-Nuzaili claimed on X that government forces “have succeeded in controlling Bab al-Mandeb,” adding that they have “cut off” and taken control of the road between Dhubab district, which overlooks Bab al-Mandeb, and the port town of Mocha, previously seized by the Houthis. CNN hasn’t independently verified the claim.
Forces, which are backed by Saudi Arabia, have also “begun implementing a strategic offensive operation” against the Houthi-controlled capital Sanaa, he said.
If successful, the offensive could loosen the Houthis’ grip on Bab al-Mandeb, where their attacks on Saudi oil exports diverted from the Strait of Hormuz have threatened to drive prices even higher just weeks before the US midterm elections. The Red Sea has become an increasingly important alternative export route since the Iran war severely disrupted traffic through Hormuz.
The Houthi-run Saba news agency denied reports that the Yemeni troops and Saudi-led coalition forces are advancing, citing an unidentified military source as saying that the alleged gains are “fictitious” and an “attempt to cover up repeated failures and defeats.”
This comes after the Saudi-led coalition pledged full support on Sunday to Yemen’s internationally recognized government in its campaign to retake territory. Houthi coastal momentum ‘broken’
The fighting marks a potential inflection point, with Yemeni government forces mounting their first significant attempt to retake territory near Bab al-Mandeb.
“This is absolutely significant,” Fatima Alasrar, a Yemeni analyst, wrote on X on Monday. “The Houthi coastal momentum is broken,” she said, adding that territory taken by the Houthis in September “is beginning to unravel.”

Be nice if neighborhood watch would take care of the miscreants on their own and not wait for us to do it. 😠
Do the Saudis ever do their own fighting?
They hire people to do everything
No. The 9/11 Saudis do not fight on the ground themselves. They bribe and pay surrogates when its time to get down and dirty. Despite their enormous wealth and huge arsenal of modern Western weapons, they only engage from the air and usually never below 15,000 feet. There is no documentation that Saudi infantry has been engaged against the Houthis or anyone else. They managed to get subsequent American administrations to shield them from Assad, Saddam Hussein and the ayatollahs.Ever wonder how the Bush family, the Clinton foundation, Obama and Biden got so rich?
Who are the Saudi mercenaries?
lol the greatest COWARDS in the world are gonna do what?-)
Worse than the French?
yes didnt you read how the houties ran them off and they left our their equipment. damn no better than FJB!
