Hegseth Announces New ‘Patriotic’ Officer Training Program In Partnership With Select Universities

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth unveiled a new military training program in partnership with several universities aimed at growing the number of “patriotic” officers.

The War Department is establishing America’s Corps of Cadets Monday, partnering with several universities to expand available officer training programs, according to a memo to Pentagon leadership obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.

The program will include Louisiana State University (LSU), Liberty University, Tuskegee University, Mississippi State University (MSU), and Hillsdale College. Notably, LSU was founded as a military school in 1853, known as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy.

Each member school will be designated a “Distinguished Military College,” requiring the institutions to maintain “exceptionally high standards of cadet discipline, tactical instruction, and military organization.” The schools would also earn the prestigious “Honor School” status, granting priority for officer commissioning.

This is great! Officers may learn some actual accurate military history from Hillsdale.

““From the Ivy Leagues to most liberal arts colleges, our colleges and universities have become anti-American, DEI-worshipping, woke factories,” Hegseth said during his State of the Force address. “Qualities like grit and courage were replaced with political correctness and social justice. God and country traded for Che Guevara and critical theory.””

Close down the academies. Too expensive. Make the recruits pay for their own tuition at the Citidel’s/VMI’s/A&M’s until they get commissioned. Then the DOD can figure out how to help pay off their ‘loans’.

Hillsdale has not had ROTC, although students can cross register at Michigan State or Michigan. Wonder how this might be a change for them.

Notably, LSU was founded as a military school in 1853, known as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy.

It actually opened its doors under the leadership of William Sherman, who was in charge of the school from 1859 until he left to seek another job in 1861. Sherman is better known for his work in Georgia in 1864.

We are very proud of my alma mater, The Senior Military College of Georgia, The University of North Georgia. A very strong corps of cadets, rigorous military and academic standards and sitting on one of the most beautiful campuses and reigons in America at the very foot of the
Blue Ridge mountains in Dahlonega, GA. For 153 years and still today it continues to provide leaders for our Army, state and nation.

LOL! Well put. Can imagine Lincoln quizzing Stanton:

Abe: What of this Sherman fellow? Can he be entrusted with such an ambitious campaign?

Ed: Don't you worry. Bill's career is on fire. He's a real barn burner, that one!

Seriously though, Secretary Hegseth needs to be mindful of labeling in regards to historical context. "Patriotic Officer" immediately brought to mind how the USSR's KGB seeded the Soviet Union's military with 'political officers' answerable to no one but the KGB and Premier himself.

They were universally despised by career military and feared by everyone else.

Related, Secretary of the Navy John Phelan has directed a review and proposed a target to eliminate 60 civilian faculty positions at the U.S. Naval Academy.

No additional tenured positions either.

Good.

USNA has 217 tenured civilian professors.

Great. Now our Naval Officers in the making will be taught by adjunct professors who don’t have the chops to get hired anywhere else, or else are teaching as a side gig.
