The job market is booming for young people – but not those with college degrees. Are employers finally coming to realize that colleges these days mainly produce coddled, know-nothing, whiny, entitled brats?

A recent analysis from Burning Glass Institute found that unemployment among those 22-34 years old without a college degree is lower than it’s been in decades, but those with college diplomas are having a much harder time finding work than before.

Necessary pain to encourage course correction. Society / Civilization can no longer coddle and hide so many indoctrinated idiots who have no useful skills to maintain and /or improve what was built before them, let alone create something even better.

The mantra we keep hearing from the media is that men are falling behind in education and socioeconomically because female college graduates are outnumbering male grads.

What these stories fail to mention is that many of those female college grads majored in women's studies or gender studies vs. men who didn't attend college but chose to learn a trade.

Your average electrician, plumber, or welder will probably earn much more than the average graduate from a university who majored in "Gender Queer Studies" or the like, apart from the small fraction who then find jobs teaching "Gender Queer Studies" at universities or propagandizing the subject in government and NGO jobs.

Decades back when the job market was less tight, a college degree, regardless of major, was evidence to employers that you could learn something, had the discipline to follow through to get a degree, and were basically literate. This was a path to various white collar or technical jobs that were usually unrelated to your major with the expectation that you would be trained and would learn your job responsibilities.

Now that employers expect you to hit the ground running with experience (because you're competing against dozens of candidates who have the same), just having a proof of paper that proves that you are "educable" is no longer a path to a decent job for young people.

Even with my kids doing well academically (they all finished college, and then some), I made DAMN SURE that they had “Working Class” skills (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, auto, etc.) and when they complained, I explained to them that there is no way to predict the future and you may need those skills to survive. Now, with AI, there’s a good chance that some of them will have to use those “Working Class” skills in the future.

Read an excellent and damning article about employers who either refuse to hire this generation or have had to fire them.

Said they came in and immediately ask about vacation and time off policy and salary range, and no nothing and ask nothing about the job, business or company.

When hired, they often call in sick, or say they didn't feel like coming in that day - show no loyalty and/or worse, come in demanding changes to the business or claim they know how to run the business better than the owners/managers do.

Not All of them, Of Course. I have a Gen-Z son with a great work ethic and well understands his place in the workplace, which has served him very well.

a big problem is that “paper” often no longer proves a damn thing, given that graduation requirements have been tremendously dumbed down [example: 1st quarter students not being graded because too many would be “traumatized” about failing], months spent trying to pass remedial courses in basic math and reading comprehension, and the fact that most majors are literally not worth the paper they’re printed on, to start with ...

I have a Political Science degree. Got it to mark time without working very hard until I could go to law school. Mine was I think a relatively rare number of universities that give a BS, rather than a BA, in poli sci. With my JD, I like to tell people I’m a scientist AND a doctor.
