Crooner Ed Sheeran called Israel’s actions in Gaza “unjustifiable” as he wept and broke his silence during his first concert since booting rapper Macklemore from his tour for tirades against the Jewish state.
“I’ve never wanted to be an activist musician, but this put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech and the most complex political issue on the planet,” Sheeran told the Philly crowd of concertgoers Saturday night.
Sheeran spoke multiple times about the controversy during Saturday night’s show at Lincoln Financial Field, growing progressively more upset as the night wore on and eventually telling fans it had been one of the “worst weeks of his life” and that “I really didn’t know whether I’d be even get on stage again, whether I wanted to be an artist at all.” At the start of the show, before playing any music, he zeroed on his feelings about the Gaza War, criticizing both Israel and Hamas.

Who is Ed Sheeran and why should I care what he thinks?
Sheeran, admirably, was unwilling to toe the “Free Palestine” line.
Until now.
Somebody appears to have gotten to him.
“But this is a humanitarian issue. I cannot hide how I feel about it anymore. What happened in Israel, and at the music festival on October 7th was horrific and compounded centuries of Jewish pain,” he said as he broke down in tears.Just sayin', the headline is misleading by omission.“What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate.”
“My heart has been broken by the scale of devastation and loss of civilian life and loss of children’s lives. And the systemic injustice we’re seeing unfolding the West Bank cannot be overlooked,” the singer-songwriter said.
Happily, IDGAF.
Early, prolific, successful, singer/songwriter.
Very distinct, high, lilting voice.
You’ll recognize his voice and many of his early songs when you hear them. The guy’s got skills and apparently puts on a good show.
Not many of them are filling stadiums but that’s been what Sheeran is doing. Sheeran’s tour recently included shows at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium.
Probbaly. But he's still trying to take a much more balanced view than the 'Free Palestine' mob demands. He's threading a very difficult and dangerous needle. His tour still has to go on, even if it's only his solo act. He has to say something to keep the 'Free Palestine' terrorists from blowing up his concerts.
It's a terrible position to be in.
Thanks for commenting.
The younger generation, especially undergraduate students Sheeran needs to sell concert tickets to, are susceptible to the “Pro- Palestine” propaganda machine which over-condemns Israel over absolutely every issue and topic, soup to nuts, trying to isolate it, and seemingly bring it down
The u.S. has a reliable ally in Israel. “Reform Israel” could be a thing, but Americans youth should not be donning any keffiyahs.
I’m so sick of the Middle East I don’t even care who’s killing who anymore. We need to focus on keeping Congress and that does not involve raising gas and food prices.
But Oct 7 raid on civilians was okay???
Of course not. The headline is misleading. Read the article.
Or if you don't want to read the article, read my comment #4 above.
He sold his soul for so little.
That which is right isn’t always popular. That which is popular isn’t always right.
CC
Well, he couldn’t have handled that worse. Shut it down Ed and become a terrorist.
he weeps because his career is careening
he knew what his opening act was all about, FAFO
Never heard of either of those guys.
Looks like he likes $’s.
Plus....he looks like a real WEIRDO.
Could be a song.
