Some immigrants detained at Florida’s now-shuttered “Alligator Alcatraz” were confined in outdoor cages only slightly larger than telephone booths for more than an hour at a time, according to a new report by the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general.
The watchdog report marks the first time a government agency has confirmed the existence of the cramped cages at the South Florida Detention Facility. Amnesty International found in a report published in December, based on interviews with detainees and a tour of the facility, that the cages were used to punish detainees and amounted to torture, sparking a congressional probe.
The inspector general’s findings don’t go as far, but the report says “the use of such restrictive spaces is highly unconventional and does not align with standards for humane treatment.”

When I was young and I wanted to talk to my girlfriend in private without having the party line (yes, I’m that old) click a dozen times from our neighbor, I would bike to the corner gas station and use the phone there. I would call her and she was, how shall I say it, long winded?
An hour usually got her through the first part of her day up to lunch lol, I could do an hour in something even larger without even batting an eye now.
The article references and LINKS TO an Amnesty International report from 2025, and the "congressional probe" is Jon Ossoff and Dick Durbin, Democrats, dating from March. So this article is an attempt to renew the information already "out there."
This "tiny cell" was not where detainees lived, but a holding cell for the occasional less-than-cooperative detainee, with a duration of about one hour. To "cool off."
The three person writing team from NBC is using old news to gin up new news....

I would be inclined to put the disruptive illegal immigrants outdoors overnight in a chain link fence cage so the Everglades mosquitos would have free access.
I’m okay with paying for cages the size of phone booths as long as there’s a minimum occupancy of at least two illegals, preferably 3. And they don’t need to be that tall!
