German exit polls suggest far-right party has big lead in regional election

The Alternative for Germany party has a strong lead in a regional election, but it is unclear whether it will be able to form the country’s first far-right state government since World War II, exit polls indicated Sunday.

Alternative for Germany, or AfD, went into the vote in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt seeking an absolute majority in the state legislature to govern on its own. That would overcome the so-called “firewall” of mainstream parties’ refusal to work with AfD.

A first state government would be the biggest prize in the party’s 13-year history, at a time of widespread discontent with an unpopular national government that has yet to persuade voters it can get the country’s sluggish economy moving. It would be at least a symbolic blow to Chancellor Friedrich Merz, whose center-right party has led Saxony-Anhalt for 24 years.

The polls for ARD and ZDF public television put AfD on around 44% of the vote, more than double its showing five years ago in the region of 2.1 million people west of Berlin.

That was far ahead of the Christian Democratic Union, the center-right party of Chancellor Friedrich Merz that currently leads the state, which was seen polling 18.5% and losing about half its support. The Left Party was seen finishing third with about 9%.

The center-left Social Democrats and Greens also were on course to remain in the state legislature, with around 8%-9% each. It was unclear whether the BSW party would get the 5% of the vote needed to win seats. The exit polls put AfD at least marginally short of an absolute majority.

I’m guessing the native Germans are getting tired of the “immigrants.”

I guess it’s time for all the AfD candidates to coincidentally die at the same time again.

I think the left will find a way to stay in power. The peoples’ will be damned.

Merkel is to blame for all this - she let millions of savages into the country.

Did the AfD promise deportations? Don’t screw that up.

They'll probably arrest the leaders of AfD.

They already did that to Jean-Marie Le Pen in France and they tried to do that to Trump here in USA.

...first far-right state government

Given that this is the AP, we can be thankful for their political moderation. They could have called the AFD, "far, far, extreme, ultra, drastic, dire, crazy right." They probably wanted to, but, you know, moderation."

AP is trying to gaslight people into thinking the German National Socialist Worker’s Party (NAZI) were “far right”. Far right means no government control which is ANARCHIST. AfD is actually centrist. The other German parties are far left just like the NAZIs.

I’m thinking that the Christian Democrats will ally with the Greens, the Socialists, and anybody else to keep the AfD out of power.

Heck, if there were a “Kick the Cute Puppies” party, the Christian Democrats would probably invite them to join a coalition.

So let’s hope that somehow the AfD gets an absolute majority here.

The lie the left refuses to quit telling. The NAZIs were far left. Indeed socialists.

Unfortunatley, tht may niot be a good sign. The Nazi Party was firmly on the far-right of the political spectrum in 1939. May not be a good omen.

And to think that Merkel’s party was the “conservative” party.

The way this is written makes it sound like a resurgence of the Nazi Party.

The Nazis believed in putting the government over the individual. Power was centralized. Personal freedoms were restricted.

These are all leftist views.
Conservatives believe in just the opposite.

Far right means no government control which is ANARCHIST

The left think the anarchists are under their tent, because some of the Circle-A, furry followers march in the leftie parades. They feel this while advocating for every government control of our lives, not aware of the dichotomy.

Also, some conservatives don't consider anarchy as the extreme right wing, but freedom and small government is closer to that side. We just value the importance of that small government.
