The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office said that confidential voter registration information was inadvertently made public during an update to a tool on the Secretary’s website.
More than 130,000 confidential voter registrations became accessible to the public.
Secretary of State Jena Griswold said the issue occurred when the office updated its “Find My Voter Registration Tool” link on its website on August 14. That update made confidential voter profiles inadvertently available to the public.
The mistake was discovered on Tuesday. In a press release, the Secretary of State’s Office said confidential voter details displayed included full name, birth year, party affiliation and residential address.
Griswold said a member of her staff, who is a confidential voter themselves, discovered that the “Find My Voter Registration Tool” wasn’t working properly.
Griswold said the problem was fixed within an hour and an investigation was started.
There are more than 133,000 confidential voters in Colorado.
FOX 31 asked the Republican and Democratic Secretary of State candidates what they think needs to be done to fix problems like these.
“I would make sure that security was a priority. We want to test, double test, triple test any change we make to any election system,” Democratic nominee for Secretary of State Amanda Gonzalez said,
“We need a true third-party investigation into what happened here,” Republican candidate for Secretary of State James Wiley said. “Was it the vendor’s fault? Was it the technology that failed, as technology always fails? Or could it be another repeat mishap from the Secretary of State’s Office?”
In October 2024, the Secretary of State’s Office said a spreadsheet that included partial passwords to certain parts of Colorado voting systems had been improperly included in a hidden tab of its website.
The secretary said 59 confidential voter profiles were accessed during the problem that occurred during this latest update. As of Friday evening, 54 of them have been contacted.
“The majority of voters said they had initiated the changes. We believe that the majority, but not all, did initiate those changes from the conversation with voters,” Griswold said to FOX31.
Griswold said a quality assurance process is in place, but the mistake was not caught in a third review, and she said that she regrets it happened.
...
Griswold said the County Clerks Association was notified of the issue yesterday evening. County clerks who had impacted voters were contacted by phone.
“My staff identified this issue, and we immediately fixed it and are continuing outreach to affected voters,” Griswold said in a press release.

Jena Griswold needs to be in gaol for no shortage of reasons.
Anybody down load it? Check for fake addresses and multiple names registered to a PO box?
We used to call that 'all of 'em'.
So Jena admits that her special brand of inability results in over 129,000 records becoming public despite being reviewed three times!
What a total incompetent...if not criminal!
Colorado elections are always on the level.
Colorado secretary of state says office accidentally sent 30,000 voter registration notices to noncitizens.. ~2022.. like in 2020 ..
OOPSIE!
OOPSIE!
What the hell is a confidential voter?
Colorado has not had an honest election since mail-in ballots delivered by the PO Union thugs = election month, not one day and same day registration was instituted... plus Dominion ballot machines connected to the internet..
With only a utility bill, no photo ID required - a person can register to vote and vote at the same time.
In the 2012 Bam Babama election there were 10 Colorado Counties that had over 100% voter participation. I think Summit county was in the lead at 150% “participation” I lived in Gilpin and we had the lowest at 105% voter participation. Something smells fishy.
“Are the 130,000 confidential voters in the room with you now?”
Colorado Secretary of State:
Q4: What can I do if I believe releasing this public information may put me or my family at risk?
A4: If you believe that you or a member of your household will be exposed to criminal harassment or bodily harm because your voter information is publicly available, you may elect to become a confidential voter. Confidential voters’ voting information will NOT be released to the public. To become a confidential voter, you must go to your local county clerk and recorder’s office, fill out a voter confidentiality form, and pay a $5.00 fee. Refer to this list of county clerk and recorder offices for the necessary contact information.
Survivors of domestic violence, sexual offenses, or stalking may also consider enrolling in the Colorado Address Confidentiality Program. Voters who are part of this program will NOT have any of their voter information released to the public.
