Graham wins GOP nod in South Carolina Senate primary runoff for late brother’s seat

Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) is projected to win the South Carolina Republican primary runoff to replace her brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), on the November ballot, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Lindsey Graham, 71, died unexpectedly in early July after serving in the Senate for more than two decades — and after winning an initial June primary for renomination to the red state seat. Darline Graham, 62, was appointed by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R) to fill the vacancy, and she’s now running for a full Senate term with support from President Trump.

Darline Graham on Tuesday defeated Rep. Ralph Norman (S.C.) after the pair were the top two vote-getters in a crowded initial primary field, including former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, businessman Mark Lynch and Reps. Russell Fry and Ralph Norman. Neither notched enough to win the Aug. 11 primary outright, forcing the race into a runoff.

What is wrong with South Carolinians? Even Massachusetts didn't seem this fixated on keeping a Kennedy as a Senator forever.

Heard that Haley endorsed Norman. That’s enough to not vote for him.

This is a pro-Trump vote more than anything else, at least the way I see it. Norman is a contrarian who endorsed Nikki Haley over President Trump in the 2024 primaries, so those who want to portray him as some sort of anti_RINO candidate are being dishonest.

In other words, Norman is an Establishment Republican. Graham, whatever her faults, will at least be a reliable Trump ally in the Senate, IMO. Ralph Norman wouldn’t have been.

Great question.

Would she be winning this primary if not related to Lindsey Graham? Would she have been appointed? Yeah, I guess technically it isn’t a Lisa Murkowski situation where the appointee was her father, but it’s still obvious the name alone carried.

Nikki Haley goes all in for Ralph Norman against Trump-backed Darline Graham Nordone

Meet The Only Member of Congress Who’s Backing Nikki Haley Ralph Norman is the rare Republican to buck Trump and live to tell the tale.

“””Heard that Haley endorsed Norman. That’s enough to not vote for him.””

Yup. I wouldn’t for either of those two.

In the closing days it appears to have turned into a proxy battle of Haley vs. Trump so that is probably what helped to seal the deal.

Graham will pretty much vote as Trump wishes, and I support Trump at least 80% of the time, so, overall I can live with this result.

Senator Graham needs some intensive study in foreign policy, however.

Most likely, Trump will be a lame duck after the Midterms in November.

Especially if the Democrats take over and then they'll impeach him for the third time.

All we can do is hope for the best. These things come up and our people don’t have contingency plans. Norman is old. He wins and we’ll be back at square one in 6 years. We need 12 out of our winning candidate. Hopefully she’ll come through for us-not counting on it.

Quite a comparison is offered. Let's make it visual:
