‘Biggest heart in the world.’ Man mourns wife, 2-year-old daughter killed by lightning strike in Margate

Kameron Glasgow with his wife, Kenya Glasgow, and their daughters, Kennedi and Kensli.

A Fort Lauderdale father is mourning the loss of his wife and young daughter Monday after a lightning strike a day earlier took their lives.

Kameron Glasgow said his 31-year-old wife, Kenya Glasgow, and their 2-year-old daughter Kennedi were getting out of their car in front of a family member’s Margate home when the lightning hit. Kennedi’s twin sister, Kensli, was still in the car, and Kameron was about 15 feet away — where he felt the aftershock.

“It’s the worst feeling in the world to turn around and to see your wife and your daughter there lifeless,” Glasgow told news crews on Monday in the suburban ne

ighborhood where the lightning struck.

“I was right there. I got that actual aftershock from the from the ground,” Glasgow said. “By the grace of God, I’m still here”

Glasgow described his wife as “someone with the biggest heart in the world. No matter how she’s feeling, no matter how tired she is, she’s going to show up for people.” He described his daughter Kennedi as an amazing singer — particularly when it came to Benson Boone songs — and best friends with her twin sister.

Kenya and Kennedi were found lying on a sidewalk about 2:30 p.m. when Margate Police and Margate Fire Rescue responded to a 911 emergency call about a possible lightning strike.

Seems like a great family.

The husband is truly dealing with loss.

May he rely on God through this time.

God, so awful and sad, the heart breaks for them.

“Your chances of (x) are no better than getting hit by lightning” is small comfort to those who are hit.

Yes terribly tragic.

I often warn about all the natural hazards that exist in Florida. It’s actually the lightning strike state capital of the US and a strike can occur 10 miles away from the parent thunderstorm.

A few weeks ago where I am a man was hit while mowing his lawn and it wasn’t even raining......fortunately he survived.

Inside a car is a safe place. Even if the car is hit the electricity flows on the outside of the conducting surface.

I have read that's true with one caveat: The rubber tires are insulators, meaning that the lightning that hits the car still has to jump from the metal car body to the ground -- it's not a fully conducting path. So there's a build-up of charge on/in the car, for a fraction of a second, until that final path is established between the car body and the ground.

So inside the car is still pretty safe, but the occupants may still feel a heck of a shock.
