The Supreme Court on Monday sided with President Donald Trump for now in his effort to impose sweeping new restrictions on distributing mail ballots, putting on hold a lower-court ruling that had blocked key parts of the plan ahead of November’s midterm elections.
The justices, over three dissents, paused a ruling by U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani in Boston that prevented the Trump administration from carrying out portions of a March executive order involving the U.S. Postal Service and voter eligibility lists.

The President recently issued an Executive Order regarding election integrity. A group of States sued the Government in the District of Massachusetts, contending that the Order unconstitutionally infringes on their authority to administer elections. The District Court agreed and enjoined the Government from implementing the Order. In doing so,
the District Court rejected the Government’s argument that
it lacked jurisdiction over the States’ claims because the
States lack standing to bring them. The Government has
asked us to stay the injunction, arguing that it is likely to
succeed on the merits of its jurisdictional argument, that
the injunction is causing it irreparable harm, and that the
equities do not favor leaving the injunction in place while
the Government’s appeal is pending. We agree and grant the stay.

Allow for early voting for the military stationed overseas. Voting officers in each unit. Trump then gives them a DIRECT order to vote. Doesn’t mean it should be enforced. Just scare them into thinking it’s real. Then watch the democrats react. Expose their hatred of the military.
Yesterday there was a thread where we were discussing whether the SCOTUS had the right to involve itself in a States right to conduct an election.
However - the USPS is a branch of the Federal government and therefore has every right to deny mailing ballots to states in order for them to commit election fraud.
The Supremes made the right call today.
states allowing non citizens to vote should be a civil rights issue against ALL Americans, because every illegal vote cancels out the vote of a legal US citizen, which denies them their civil rights.
I do not understand why elections for federal offices are not under federal jurisdiction.
I thought it was decided by the SCOTUS that district judges can not impose nation-wide injunctions.
Why does this keep happening?
And why can’t the administration simply ignore any attempt by a district judge to impose a nation-wide injunction?

Because the Framers didn’t believe the federal government should have the right to set rules that exceed the Constitution for state elections.
They also recognized that in a federal republic, all the rights not specifically granted to the federal government are retained by the states or the People.
I get that Senators are State-level elections, but POTUS should be uniform.
all elections are state elections ... except for the electoral college vote for POTUS ...

The case said a single court could not apply a nationwide injunction universally to potential plaintiffs who are NOT part of the lawsuit being heard.
Universal injunctions are still a tool available for preventing continuing harm to litigants. Therefore, if you want to be subject to whatever the universal injunction might be, you need to be a plaintiff - which requires standing. There will be a lot of new litigation to firgure out the borders of this case.
Where this is leading - federal mid-terms will be ‘paused’ to eventually operate thru clean voter rolls.
States will have a decision to make: either proceed as planned on 11/3 with some combination of announcement to ignore federal offices, instructions at the polls that any votes for congress/sinate are not read, or re-print the ballots without the federal offices. Some states *may* choose to ‘pause’ to align with federal, and save the cost of a second election day.

That would at least be fun to watch.
I just finished reading the Court’s opinion. It was a good ruling.
Of course, Kagan and Sotomayor dissent and Jackson dissents separately. Over half of the opinion pages are of Jackson’s dissent. She sure does love to hear herself “speak”.
