DeSantis Awards $9 Million Grant To Bring 2,000 Shipbuilding Jobs To Pensacola, Escambia County

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis visited the Port of Pensacola on Wednesday to award $9 million from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund to the City of Pensacola, supporting the establishment of Birdon America Inc.’s Southeastern headquarters and creating 2,000 new jobs.

The grant funding will aid in public infrastructure enhancements and capacity building to support the construction of two shipbuilding facilities totaling approximately 400,000 square feet of manufacturing space at the Port of Pensacola. The new facilities will expand Florida’s maritime manufacturing capacity, allowing the port to produce complex Navy ship modules for submarines and surface vessels up to 400 feet long.

The project will support economic development not just in the City of Pensacola, but throughout Escambia County and the entire Northwest Florida Region, creating approximately 2,000 manufacturing and related jobs connected to advanced shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing operation, according to Escambia County officials.

“We have a strong economy because we have our priorities straight,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “We have delivered record tax relief while making strategic investments in workforce education, infrastructure, and economic development projects that bring industry and jobs to our state. Today, we’re building on that track record with a $9 million investment to support the construction of two boatbuilding facilities at the Port of Pensacola. These facilities will produce complex Navy ship modules for submarines and surface ships, and they are projected to create 2,000 jobs for Floridians in shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing.”

Thank you very much and God bless you.

These will be some good jobs--as long as they don't all go to illegal aliens.

Good. They used to make ships in Pensacola. Having lived there for a year, that city could use some good paying jobs. Aside from the Navy, there aren’t many good paying jobs there even though the beach and especially Gulf Breeze are quite nice.

“The grant funding will aid in public infrastructure enhancements and capacity building to support the construction of two shipbuilding facilities totaling approximately 400,000 square feet”. What kind of ships do they intend to build? That’s classified.

GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS SIGNS STRONGEST ANTI-ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LEGISLATION IN THE COUNTRY TO COMBAT BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS

May 10 2023

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 1718 to combat the dangerous effects of illegal immigration caused by the federal government’s reckless border policies. This legislation makes using E-Verify mandatory for any employer with 25 or more employees, imposes enforceable penalties for those employing illegal aliens, and enhances penalties for human smuggling. Additionally, this bill prohibits local governments from issuing Identification Cards (ID) to illegal aliens, invalidates ID cards issued to illegal aliens in other states, and requires hospitals to collect and submit data on the costs of providing health care to illegal aliens.

looks like this goes hand-in-glove with Trump’s memo yesterday about streamlining the construction of new US naval vessels, including building at least one brand new naval ship-building facility ...

Prediction: Trump will appoint Vance to a SCOTUS opening next year and replace him with Vance to give him the upper hand in ‘28. Trump has 29 months to set the world stage so that DeSantis can deal mainly with domestic issues

Definitely in the top three.

We GOPers have three excellent potential POTUS candidates (and the Democrat Socialists have zero).

The Dems will, one highly suspects, try to instigate internecine food fights among us. Most of us know better than to fall for the bait.

His record in Florida should be enough. Democrats have no record to speak of but they sure can talk a big game.

Speaking from experience....

These jobs will not be filled by Americans. I had SEVERAL interviews with major ship builders who offered laughably low wages. General Dynamics (Bath Iron Works in Maine) offered $55k per year for my mastered degree experience with CFD, design, lofting, FEA and all sorts of experience. It was clear they only offered these jobs to ensure they could tell our government overlords “we can’t find anyone to work for us.” I have zero faith any government job building policy exists to bring in more cheap immigrants. ALL immigration MUST be stopped. NOW.

Welders graduating from our small technical school are going overseas and making $100,000 per year. Not every welder is making that but some are; not sure of the average.
