President Donald Trump reportedly conveyed to donors during a private conversation in the Oval Office his desire that Vice President JD Vance win the 2028 presidential election.
The reported conversation, according to the Washington Post (WP), happened two weeks ago and the outlet on Thursday cited two individuals who had knowledge of the conversation but spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“At the end of the day, we need to elect JD,” the president reportedly stated.
An adviser to the president with direct knowledge of Trump’s comment to the donors said that Trump has privately resolved that Vance will be the heir to the GOP, but that it is “too early” to determine when Vance will announce his candidacy or when Trump will publicly endorse him.
Rubio said in May he would be the first person to back Vance if he ran for president in 2028, per Breitbart News.
“I’m going to be in this job for the next two and a half years. I’m going to do that job. I’m going to finish the job for this president. I’m enjoying it very much. I think we’re going to make a lot of good things happen. JD is a very good friend of mine. If JD runs for president. I think he’d be a phenomenal candidate. I’ve said publicly, and I’ll say it again, I’ll be the first person to sign up and support him. I think JD would do great,” Rubio told NBC News.

If this is true, I hope Vance repented of voting for Hillary, otherwise he may just be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

On the other hand - every time I see Vance talk, I do not believe he can win a national election as the Republican Nominee.
As for Marco Rubio - he is a 50-50 coin toss, on his best day.
Bottom Line - in 2016, 2020, and 2024, Donald Trump was the ONLY Republican candidate who could win a national election.

I hope Vance denounces his friend, Tucker Carlson, loudly and often. I trust Rubio more than Vance. My gut tells me he’d be strongest carrying on MAGA.
Re Hillary, when she was hot and heavy in 2008, before she was ousted by TPTB in favor of Obama, does anyone know where Trump stood on the POTUS candidates? He’s not a long-term GOP, and has been socially liberal most of his life.

Friedman and other free enterprise advocates had a huge blind spot when it came to national security and the preservation of our manufacturing culture.
I think during the Cold War, we became obsessed with proving free market capitalism was superior to collectivism - which it is of course - but forgot the importance of self-sufficiency.
Friedman and others argued that if the Japanese can make better cars that’s a god thing - let them - we benefit by buying cheaper, better cars - surely we can find things we are better at making and sell them to the Japanese.
Can’t we all agree 50 years later that this was a huge mistake?
True, the government should not interfere with markets and pick winners and losers - but there SHOULD be a national policy regarding production of food, medicine, raw materials and technology - especially relating to the national defense and the preservation of our culture.
I remember 27 years ago when I was in business school. I was taught what everybody else in the 90s was taught which is that if a factory closes down, people will get retraining in a more economically productive field and then move to where the higher paying jobs are and will end up making more money. So that factory closing down will ultimately spur them to be better off and we'll all get richer.
I believed it. I had no work experience in corporate America and no reason not to believe it.
But over the next 15-20 years I noticed that what I was taught would happen was not what I was seeing. That factory closed alright. But people could not move so easily and in many cases did not move. The industrial town they were in withered. People lost hope. They started using fentanyl and 100,000 started dying of overdoses every year. The suicide rate skyrocketed. The country became far more politically polarized and far less secure as industry after industry was outsourced. The coasts got richer but the middle of the country was largely hollowed out. Gone was the national unity we had before. The thought of Vermont and Alabama voting the same way in any national election became unthinkable....yet it happened in the 80s.
In short, the harms outweighed the benefits - at least for America. In theory, Friedman should have been right. In the real world, he wasn't. People could not/would not adapt and move like he thought they would.
We must now reverse much of what happened from about 1990-2015. We need large scale reindustrialization.

It was interesting that in most of the cases, the government (eminent domain) was the cause of people losing jobs, homes, and hope. We thought the video would be informational, which it was, but mostly it was just sad.
