France on Monday condemned a proposal by hard-right Reform UK party to launch, if it wins power, "the largest military operation" in the Channel "since World War II" to stop migrants crossing on small boats.
The party's leader, Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, at a press conference unveiled a policy to deploy Britain's Royal Navy to return small boats to France.
But the French interior ministry told AFP that the plan "would be a violation of French sovereignty as well as a violation of maritime law and international law".
The proposal comes days after tens of thousands of migrants entered the Spanish territory of Ceuta in north Africa from neighbouring Morocco, reigniting Europe's debate over irregular migration.

God I hate those people.
Huh, I wonder why it is that France seems to be ineffective at stopping these boat people? It’s almost like they’re encouraging it.
Just need two HMS cruisers (IF they have such) to run the channel at optimum speed for greatest wake along the French coast.

Using a country’s navy to defend that country’s ocean perimeter?
Is that legal?
France is happy to get rid of them
and maybe even encouraging it.
France is absolutely encouraging the boats, they don’t want those savages in their country, they are more than happy to help them leave for the UK.
Recently, a Reform MP was in the Channel filming boats headed for the UK while French Navy Ships were nearby doing nothing to stop the boats, while filming the French Navy fired off warning shots at the boat carrying the Reform MP.
Same reasoning Mexico applies with us.
They have no problem as long as these people keep heading North and disappear across the border.
Push back on that, and OMG it’s an act of racism, human rights violation, being mean, anti-immigrant... BS-
I just don’t want a neighbor that poses a potential threat and when you have “undocumented” folks coming in by the millions you will have many rotten apples among them.
What this means is that these people would stay in France. France’s opposition is one of the best indicators that it’s a great idea.
If Britain is not willing to use the sad remains of their Royal Navy to keep the invaders out, they might as well just scrap the whole thing - because it is completely pointless and a waste of money in that case.
They no longer have any cruisers, they have some worn out old patrol boats, they have one sort of working destroyer and a broken carrier. All their attack subs, other destroyers and the other carrier are all laid up with problems, needing rebuild, or don’t have enough crew.

Not quite. The incident to which you refer involved a Tory (not Reform) MP, who made himself ridiculous by claiming a nearby routine French Navy exercise was directed at him. In fact French police, funded by the UK, are doing quite a lot to deter the trafficers, but are prevented by French maritime law from intervening once the boats are in the water. The French have no interest in encouraging the business, not least because of the social problems created by the large gatherings along the coast.
Gaza was also Christian.
good points
this is war
Carrier is not fully operational. It had to stop at Norway to get some repairs on the way to the exercise and word is that they had to dial back things to allow for the reduced capability of the crippled RN carrier. Propulsion problems.
HMS Duncan also is know to have propulsion problems - it can’t operate in summer conditions south of the latitude of London or the powerplant overheats. This is the “sort of working” destroyer. They have another one deployed to Cyprus now that had to return to the UK right after being deployed late, then it had all kinds of failures on the way there and it’s currently waiting for parts in Cyprus before it can even consider returning home.
Who cares? France is determined to commit suicide.
