Former Seattle police Chief Shon Barnes will receive roughly $700,000 for resigning from the Seattle Police Department, according to his resignation letter.

Barnes, who was relieved of his duties on Friday, agreed not to sue the City of Seattle under the terms of his optional resignation agreement.

By the numbers: Seattle will pay Barnes a lump sum of 18 months of his salary at his hourly rate of $179.54, along with 12 months of health insurance valued at $2,525.99 per month.

The agreement also states Barnes does not have to repay his $50,000 recruitment bonus or his $60,000 relocation package from when he was hired, according to Publicola.

The $700,000 resignation deal for former Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes was negotiated and signed between Barnes and Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson’s administration.

The severance package includes approximately $590,000 in direct cash and lump-sum payments (for 18 months of salary and a year of health insurance) alongside the retention of $110,000 in previous hiring and relocation bonuses.

In exchange, Barnes agreed to resign and waive all future employment-related lawsuits against the City of Seattle.-—Fox News Seattle

Mayorette Wilson really knows how to negotiate - not.
Let him sue. I am assuming Seattle has lawyers.

“Sayles previously served as the chief of police in Beloit, Wisconsin before joining SPD less than a year ago.”

He probably had a multi-year contract and the city would be facing a lawsuit if fired early based on...what?

“The decision comes after intense criticism of how long it took the Police Department to provide information about Sunday night’s shooting at Seattle Center during the Bite of Seattle. Barnes was at a law enforcement conference at the time, which spurred further scrutiny, this time of how often he is out of state.” - Seattle Times

So he was out of state at the time of a shooting, and he’s to blame? It isn’t as if the city (and idiot mayor) didn’t know he was out of town.

I think the mayor was floundering and asked for his resignation before his contract would have allowed as a way of distracting the press, and he agreed without admitting blame.

or his $60,000 relocation package from when he was hired

Was that to relocate from Chicago to Seattle, or somewhere else to Chicago?
