Spain's PM blames traffickers after 60,000 migrants reach Ceuta from Morocco

Spain's prime minister has blamed trafficking gangs after about 60,000 migrants crossed into the Spanish North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. At least 57 people died during the surge, according to local media.

Pedro Sánchez called the incident a "violation of Spain's territorial integrity". Italy has responded by suspending the EU's border-free Schengen arrangements with Spain.

The influx comes after Spain's Supreme Court ruled that migrants stopped at sea while trying to reach Ceuta or Melilla, another Spanish enclave, cannot be summarily returned to Morocco.

As of Friday evening, more than 48,000 people had voluntarily returned to Morocco, Spanish officials said.

One man told Reuters news agency he was going back, adding: "It's not good at all, and it's not fun either. I mean, people are dying here. I beg you, please, if you haven't come yet, don't come. Don't do it."

Ceuta on the North African coast is separated from mainland Spain by the Strait of Gibraltar. It has long been a focal point for migrants attempting to reach Europe. During the summer months there is often a big push to reach Ceuta, typically organised over social media.

Coveted by Morocco, Ceuta and another Spanish enclave Melilla have long been a flashpoint in diplomatic relations between the two countries. They form the European Union's only land borders with Africa.

Local officials had appealed to Madrid for help after a recent rise in attempted crossings, but there were chaotic scenes on Thursday as border controls apparently broke down.

Carmen Gonzalez Bermudez who was in the city to see her parents told the BBC that the past day had been "very overwhelming".

She said she saw "thousands and thousands of people in swimming costumes and all wet, just coming from the sea", adding that "I know most of them are..."

This is where the king should step in and save his country. Democracy should not be suicide pact.

“Spain’s PM blames traffickers after 60,000 migrants reach Ceuta from Morocco”

if 6,000 banks got robbed in spain while the police stood around and did nothing, would the PM blame bank robbers?

"Judges?" An 'elite' who lives in the equivalent of our 'gated communities'... and cares more about illegals than about her fellow citizens? Sounds like a democrat.

Catalonians, who have been wanting to get even with Franco, since the end of the Spanish Civil War.

Countries are emptying their prisons, insane asylums and welfare class onto western countries. It’s Cloward-Piven on an international scale.

Western countries are treating the symptom and not the cause. The invading armies are not going to stop. They have declared war. It’s time to recognize that fact.

He's a little premature; it's not traffickers who should be criticized right now. It's after they reach Spain proper, which would be in 3,2,1....

So it was the Catalonians? I can believe they vote in a block. When l was in Barcelona l saw they clumped together and had a country within a country and that does not end well.

Got little to do with “traffickers”.
Got everything to do with Pedro Sanchez who opened the floodgates by granting amnesty to a million invaders.

What’s so humorous about this debacle is that, for once, Trump isn’t even part of the story. They can only blame themselves & their feckless leaders for thinking this plan was going to work. Seeing the socialist Spanish PM blame the traffickers for this inevitable surge — that even Lil Stevie Wonder could visualize — is especially hilarious.

Wikipedia - I realize a dubious source, especially for political info, says Sanchez’s party and its coalition supporters have less than half the seats in each house of their parliament. It’s not like UK where a narrow majority of votes gathered Labour a large working majority of seats, team Sanchez is governing via a minority of the seats! So why hasn’t the majority, the opposition gotten together enough to say Sanchez’s open borders caused an invasion and threatens the worst times for Spaniards since Ferdinand and Isabella ended the last invasion. So join to vote their majority as a no confidence vote and be done with the traitorous PM. Revoking his amnesty and removing his million bogus entrants can proceed while building gallows for deserving politicians and judges.

The one good thing about this should be its affect on our midterms. All the high profile Dems have been pushing Socialism - Democratic Socialism. Claim wonderful things for that magic word. Here you have not just an avowed socialist, the President of the International Socialist Party, producing visually shocking results with his policies. Every GOP candidate, even the worst RINOs, running against DSA members should be showing this as what you get from socialists. “Remember the Alamo, Remember the Maine, Remember CUETO!”. Everyone running against Dems who don’t admit to being in the DSA camp, should be pointing at all the times they voted with or spoke well of DSA Democrats, their shared guilt. Only the deepest blue districts should remain in their control.

60,000 men didn’t just show up on the beach.

Somebody provided transportation, food, water, etc.

Moving 60,000 men to anyplace requires logistical support.
