A police officer in Madison, Wisconsin, shot and killed a man who had injured him with a knife while resisting arrest, the city's police chief said Wednesday.
Police as of Thursday have not identified the man who was killed, saying only that he was in his 30s, but Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and Madison District 6 Alder Davey Mayer identified him as Corey Ruiz.
The Madison Police Department said in a news release that its officers were responding to calls that someone was stealing bicycles and checking vehicle doors in the city's Marquette neighborhood. The man fled from officers on a bicycle, traveling through backyards to get away, the department said, before officers encountered him again at an intersection.
At the intersection, the man "either fell or was pulled off the bicycle," the department said, noting that how he came off the bicycle "is still being determined." A "struggle ensued" between the man and officers in the intersection, the department said.
"During the struggle, the man pulled out a fix-blade knife and injured an officer," the police department said. The department shared a photo of the knife, which has a black handle. In video reviewed by CBS News, an officer can be heard shouting, "He's got a knife!"
An officer deployed a Taser, but it was unsuccessful, Police Chief John Patterson said at a news conference on Wednesday. Then, the injured officer fired his weapon. Video reviewed by CBS News shows police appearing to shoot the man three times about two seconds after the Taser was deployed. Video also shows a knife being thrown to the ground after the shooting. Blood appears to be visible alongside the knife in the photo shared by police.

I rarely watch the nightly news but it was their headline story last night. Then, negroes took over the police station while the chief was making a statement.
Its a good thing it is summer, or the U Wisconsin students would pile on.
Was it one of the 13% of bears that steal 50% of the picnic baskets, Yogi?
Suicide by cop in a town that doesn’t know what is right in front of it. Can Benjamin Crump’s Gulfstream reach Madison? Stay tuned for more!
Yes, Booboo!
Finally, a copper who has been to the range.
They took the time to admonish the general public to always comply with the police, correct? Don’t try to stab the cops, for example. Or run them over with your car.
Sort of a Public Service Announcement kind of thing.
Right?
“ The department shared a photo of the knife, which has a black handle.”
Ah, the scary “black knife.” In this case, it really WAS an “assault knife.”
The percentages are much worse than that, at both ends. It is largely males aged 10 to 45, something like that. Although chicks are starting to catch up.
Probably 4% causing 65% of murder, rape, robbery, larceny, etc etc. This has to be ignored by the usual suspects for some reason, and has been destroying everything in its path like a wrecking ball for decades now. Businesses and downtowns. Schools especially.
That fellow was utterly mad to bring his knife to a gunfight.
What is really surprising is that a Cop in madistan filled the guy full of lead.
Cop is likely to be thrown off the force
The guy was a known felon. The guy was stealing bikes in the neighborhood.
The guy pulled a knife and cut a sherif.
The guy was resisting arrest in a manner consistent with someone on mind altering drugs.
I hate these stories with people ending up dead. But there was a lot of buttons this guy pushed that would lead someone to think, “He’s gonna end up dead.”
I am forever perplexed at people who know this stuff happens and still resist arrest. Just stop. It is very easy.
I suspect the call to arms had to go out first to mobilize the usual professional protesters to travel to WI from all the ICE protests around the country. The media jackals are now doing their part to make it appear a spontaneous and natural reaction is occurring.
Another summer of love, inspired by St.George, the Floyd, patron saint of fentanyl, is on the horizon. I believe the victim here has a longer rap sheet (something like 40 convictions) than St.George's.
It is reported (on the Today show this morning) that Ruiz has been arrested 40 times with similar charges.
Fourty
.....resististing, aggravated assault on police, etc.
Sounds to me the officer did the right thing.
And his mama will no doubt say he was a good boy, turning his life around, was going to open a Learing Center, etc.....
I’m not sure when it was decided that Nothing a Black man could ever do would justify him being shot and killed by Police but these scumbags need to be educated and rioting met with more shooting.
Agreed.
No ID but that he was in his 30’s.
Ri-i-i-i-i-i-ight.
