It never had their backs in the first place.
The nomination of open Hamas supporters by the Democratic Party has led to another round of American Jewish liberals bemoaning their abandonment by the party and the movement despite that time they marched with MLK.
But the Democratic Party didn’t abandon the Jews, it never stood with them in the first place.
When was the Democratic Party ever friendly to Jews? Was it the antisemitism of New Deal litigation that targeted Jews in the Shechter chicken case or when FDR told Stalin that he might give the Saudi regime “the six million Jews in the United States” after watching six million Jews die in Europe? Was it when Truman slapped an arms embargo on Israel as it fought for independence and later told his biographer that “there’s never been a Jew inside the house.”
Even the brief honeymoon period after the Holocaust when the Democrats at least pretended to deplore public displays of antisemitism came quickly to an end with the degeneration of the civil rights movement championed by Jewish liberals into black militant groups. By the end of the 1960s, antisemitic race riots tore apart entire communities and antisemitic statements by black leaders were becoming a routine factor of life that the Democratic Party leaned to accept.
Some Jewish liberal groups protested them, mostly to no avail, held civil rights gatherings to reboot the mostly mythical black-Jewish alliance and the ADL issued surveys documenting clear patterns of antisemitism and suggested teaching black people more about the Holocaust.
Over the next half century, a line of openly antisemitic hatemongers, Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan and Al Sharpton, were added to the pantheon of black leaders, and became power players in the Democratic Party.

After the Crown Heights Pogrom, Al Sharpton ran for the presidential nomination, got an MSNBC show and became a kingmaker in the Democratic Party.
Most of this had nothing to do with “Israel”, “Zionism” or anything except straightforward racism.
On the Israel side, white Democrats from Adlai Stevenson to Jimmy Carter became quite comfortable attacking Jews in antisemitic language with even less response from Jewish Dems.
But for the most part, Democrats paid lip service to condemning antisemitism, just not when it came from prominent members of their own party, and, after the brief honeymoon under JFK and LBJ, paid lip service to supporting Israel while opposing and undermining it when in office.
The Democratic Party didn’t abandon the Jews, the Jews abandoned themselves by accepting antisemitism from the party, refusing to hold it accountable, lowering their expectations, refocusing around general social justice while ignoring their interests and even their survival.
If they want things to change, that is where it starts.
Long article of the inside baseball that is being a Jewish politician/voter in the Third Millennia. By the excellent Mr Greenfield.
Ping out to the Daniel Greenfield Ping! list.
As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the esteemed Daniel Greenfield ping list.

Not even mentioned, the militant arm of the Democratic Party, the Ku Klu Klan. Those southern Protestant Democrats who targeted Jews, Catholics and prominent black/white Republicans.
The Jews let themselves be used like toilet paper by the dems. Now they’re use to them is over. What did they expect?
Louis Farrakhan, aka Louis Eugene Walcott, is 93 years old now and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
Good article.
I trust you understand now why its important to have and exercise your gun rights. As you increasingly leave NY and maybe LA, understand that the red states are growing much much faster precisely because we never adopted Gaia worship and kept taxes low because we never thought government should provide everything like they do in the blue states. Oh...and I trust you now understand why we think open borders sucks. There are lots of Jew hating Muslims who would love to invade our country and leech off of us - and who would bring their Jew hate with them....just like they did in NYC.
P.S. We expect Asians will be along to join the Right shortly. They work hard and study hard. Obviously the Democrats can’t tolerate that. They’re already being described as “White adjacent” and are discriminated against in college admissions.
“The Jews let themselves be used like toilet paper by the dems. Now they’re use to them is over. What did they expect?”
The Jews brought money to the Democrat Party, so for that they got lip service. Now the Muslims in the US outnumber them and have even more money for the Democrats. So, sorry Jews, they no longer need you.
Liberal-Leftist Jews created this ‘Rat monster. Now the monster intends to eat them. Sorry not sorry.
“By the end of the 1960s, antisemitic race riots tore apart entire communities”
I did not see the 68 riots (and others) as anti-Jewish. I suppose there may have been an anti-Jewish element that was not reported on.
In Washington D.C. there was looting of the shopping district on 16th st. Perhaps some of the shop owners were Jewish.
Great article.
Observant Jews are conservative. “Jewish” atheists vote Democrat.

Approximately 1.8 million Jewish adults, just under one-third
of the total Jewish electorate, live in twenty-five congressional districts.
National Profile of the Jewish Electorate, May 2020
Of the top twenty-five districts by Jewish population, nearly half are in New York — NY10, NY-3, NY-12, NY-17, NY4, NY-9, NY-6, NY-8, and NY11.
The remaining districts with Jewish populations are found in seven states including Florida, California, Illinois, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. FL-21 has the greatest number of Jewish adults at 152,000.
With the exception of NJ-4, these districts are represented by Democrats and all but two (NJ-4 and NJ-5) are Democratic-leaning districts.
American Jewish voters and campaign donors historically align with and donate heavily to the Democratic Party, with roughly 70% of Jews identifying as or leaning Democratic because of unwavering Democrat support for Jewish liberal values, such as abortions with the government picking up the tab, the gay agenda, social welfare, pluralism, and church-state separation.
US Jews allegiance to the Democratic Party is driven by a commitment to liberalism, and that Democrats represents the Jewish community’s values.
Pro-Israel Tax Dollar Funding: pro-Israel lobbying groups (like AIPAC’s United Democracy Project) direct significant funding toward Democratic primaries to influence foreign policy positions......paericularly rax dollar billions to subsidize Israel’s military, economy and generous social welfare system
The majority of individual Jewish donations go to Democrats. (Pew Research Center)
From time to time you may hear or read “united we are strong.” The words have the merit of being true. However, it’s not the whole story. You have to ask, “strong in what direction?” Of course, people can provide soothing answers, but the question still lingers.
The essence of Mussolini’s fascism was “united we are strong.” Labor, Government, Business would all be bound together just much like the sticks (fasces) that made up the handle of the Roman battleaxe.
Why do Jews vote Democrat? Tell me if I’m wrong. I think it’s because “it’s what we do.” We all stick together and vote Democrat. United we are strong.
History shows that Jews will abandon the democrat party if you give them a viable candidate to the left of the democrats.
JINOs get their comeuppance.
Leftists who may be genetically and sometimes even culturally Jewish are, in my experience, the main body of Jews in the Demoncrap Party. They are mostly not Torah believers, synagogue attendees or daily practicers.
Their deal with the devil was always likely to turn out badly.
Separate these die hard leftists from believing Jews, and you have a whole different demographic, which is much more conservative (a majority?) and is the future of Judaism in America and especially Israel.
