Appeals court overturns ruling in favor of 'conversion therapy' ban

An appeals court panel has revived a lawsuit from two counselors challenging a Missouri city’s ban on counseling minors away from a transgender or homosexual identity.

A three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a per curiam ruling last Thursday reversing a district court ruling against counselors Wyatt Bury and Pamela Eisenreich, citing the Supreme Court’s 8-1 ruling in Chiles v. Salazarin March.

The case involves ordinances of Kansas City and Jackson County that restrict so-called LGBT conversion therapy for minors while allowing therapy for minors that affirm LGBT identity.

In Chiles v. Salazar, the Supreme Court ruled that Colorado could not ban therapists from counseling minors seeking to change their sexual orientation or treat gender dysphoria.

The Court of Appeals overruled and remanded a District Court judge largely dismissing the counselors' civil rights complaint. So the District Court needs to reconsider the motion to dismiss. To answer your question, it's a definite "maybe" now in light of the recent SCOTUS decision cited.

An adult should be able to engage in whatever talk therapy they might benefit from. Neutering & mutilating health bodies is NOT medicine.

I am not sure conversion therapy has much of a success rate. Yeah, the trans kids are suffering from mental delusions, but delusions are tenacious things.

With that caveat, I am still astounded that cutting off or disabling children’s body parts is approved “therapy.” I can remember when we thought that what was done to the castrati was horrible, but at least some of them could sing.

Our reality is now living in a South Park cartoon. Only therapies that affirm the child’s desire to chop off his penis are allowed, while therapies encouraging the child to accept his body parts and not chop off his penis are banned and illegal. How did we ever arrive at this? How did such evil people take over the judiciary? If I understand this ruling, it is now an allowed therapy to encourage the child to not chop off his penis, but the penis choppers are appealing or refiling their case.

We shouldn’t just accept, unexamined, the labels that the left provides for us. We never call it “conversion therapy” as they do. It’s reparative therapy, a label that drives the left insane because it implies that homosexuality is broken sexuality, which it is.

Look up Christian therapist David Pickup, who provides this therapy in California, no less. He flies under the radar because he doesn’t directly address a child’s sexuality, but the events that may have contributed to that leaning. He has uncovered a lot of child sexual abuse by doing so. If nothing else, that is a massive benefit from such therapy.

The US District Court ruled against conversion therapy.

The US Supreme Court, in another case, ruled that conversion therapy bans violate the constitution.

On appeal, the US 8th Circuit Court of Appeals sent the case back to the District Court for reconsideration in light of the USSC opinion in the other case.
