Ukraine urgently appeals to nearly 40 allies for Patriot interceptors
The Kyiv Independent ^ | July 2, 2026 | Polina Moroziuk

Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has appealed to nearly 40 partner countries to urgently transfer Patriot missiles from their stockpiles in July in exchange for future deliveries already contracted for Ukraine, the Defense Ministry said on July 2.

The appeal comes after Russia launched one of its largest-ever aerial assaults against Kyiv overnight on July 2, killing at least 22 people and overwhelming Ukraine's air defenses with dozens of ballistic and cruise missiles alongside hundreds of drones.

According to the Defense Ministry, Ukraine has already signed contracts for hundreds of PAC-2 Patriot missiles with German support, but deliveries are not expected to begin until the coming years.

Kyiv has also taken "a step" toward purchasing around 100 additional Patriot missiles through a 1 billion euro loan backed by the European Union, while European partners have begun transferring missiles from their own stockpiles for the first time this year, according to the ministry.

The Defense Ministry added that Ukraine has more than doubled the effectiveness of Patriot systems against maneuvering Russian Iskander missiles by implementing NATO's After Action Review standard.

"However, this is not enough. Ukraine critically needs additional Patriot missiles, which are available in partners' stockpiles," the ministry said, adding that protecting Ukraine's skies depends on swift decisions — including expanding the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a NATO-coordinated mechanism for purchasing U.S.-made weapons for Ukraine, and procuring missiles through JUMPSTART, a U.S. program that speeds up delivery of PAC-3 missiles.

Sure, why not. Those things grow on trees and can be produced in no time at all. No one else deserves to have them but the grifter.

Just negotiate a deal to end that stupid war, Zelensky, and you won’t need what others no longer want to give you.

I'm no fan of Zelensky or of Ukraine - not least because he approaches Trump and other Western leaders with a sense of entitlement to our money and arms - but it looks as though Zelensky and the Ukes would now be willing to accept a "frozen conflict" with Russia holding onto what it currently has in exchange for security guarantees, or at least favor an extgended ceasefire for the stalemate.

So at this stage, it's Putin's delusions that he'll be able to eventually conquer all of Ukraine (even though he hasn't even been able to take Donbas in 4.5 years of a meat grinder war) that are standing in the way of some kind of settlement. If he were a rational person with a grasp of reality, he could have cut his losses, held on to a 15% sliver of Ukraine as de facto (though not de jure) part of Russia with another 5% sliver as a de-militarized zone a year ago if not earlier.

Trump all but offered that and could have strong-armed Ukraine into accepting such a deal if Zelensky balked, but Putin refused to acknowledge the fact that was the best possible option for him a that point.

Trump said it best. They want to fight so he’s going to let them continue to fight.

For the first year of this war, every news story was about the shortage of 155mm shells, in Ukraine and in the entire West.

Now, there is no reporting on that.

Has that been fixed? Or has Ukraine simply given up on conventional artillery?

Iran, Russia and China approve this request.

Darrelle Revis is among Tom Brady’s most frequent interceptors.

Yes, the US has been running low on Patriot missiles (specifically the interceptors), with stocks depleted and a multi-year recovery ahead.

m.economictimes.com

Current SituationDepletion: The US (and allies) fired hundreds to over 1,000 Patriot interceptors during the 2026 Iran conflict, on top of prior usage and transfers to Ukraine. Before that, US stocks had already dropped to around 25% of the Pentagon’s minimum requirements due to Ukraine aid and other demands.

yahoo.com

Reports indicate the US may have used nearly half its pre-war Patriot inventory in the early phases of recent conflicts. Gulf allies also burned through large portions of their own stocks.

csis.org

This has created a “window of vulnerability” for US forces, Ukraine, Taiwan, and other partners, as Russia exploits gaps in Ukrainian air defenses and other threats persist.

theguardian.com

Production and ReplenishmentCurrent production: Lockheed Martin produces the advanced PAC-3 MSE interceptors at roughly 600–650 per year (shared between the US and allies).

“Each PAC-3 MSE interceptor costs $7 million.”

https://www.thepricer.org/how-much-does-the-patriot-missile-system-cost/

Simply make sure the likely target damage would be less.

It doesn’t make sense to launch a $7 million missile to protect a $100,000 drone assembly cottage, which might be built in a forest so an incoming missile would likely only hit a tree.

“The Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) addresses Patriot’s most significant structural weakness: its legacy single-face phased array radar, the AN/MPQ-53/65, which provides only limited-sector coverage and requires reorientation to address multi-azimuth threats. LTAMDS replaces this with three active electronically scanned array antennas — one large primary array and two secondary arrays — delivering genuine 360-degree simultaneous detection, tracking, and fire control.”

Perhaps Ukraine can modify far cheaper missiles to be steerable.

I found this online:

Operating in the S-band (2–4 GHz), the radar is optimized for detecting low-RCS targets like the F-35 Lightning II, exploiting longer wavelengths that can resonate with stealth airframes.

Unlike higher-frequency X-band fire-control radars designed for precision tracking, the ALP-300G’s S-band configuration makes it harder for stealth shaping and radar-absorbent materials to conceal aircraft at long ranges.

At its core, the ALP-300G relies on AESA technology with thousands of independent transmit-receive modules, giving it near-instantaneous beam steering and the ability to track hundreds of targets simultaneously.

ASELSAN’s engineers report an instrumented range of up to 750 kilometers, while Dr. Eray Güçlüer claims the radar can detect an F-35 at 650 kilometers, putting it in the same class as Russia’s Nebo-M or China’s JY-27A counter-stealth radars.

Each transmit-receive module operates independently, making the radar resilient to jamming and kinetic strikes, a redundancy absent in older mechanically scanned arrays.

The radar integrates seamlessly with the HERİKKS-600 C2 network, feeding a common operating picture that can cue interceptors such as HİSAR-O, HİSAR-U, and the SİPER long-range SAM.

Technologically, it highlights Türkiye’s mastery of Gallium-Nitride (GaN) TRM production, which allows higher power density, extended detection ranges, and improved counter-stealth performance.

With low probability of intercept (LPI) waveforms and a software-defined architecture, the ALP-300G can be continually upgraded, ensuring relevance against evolving stealth and hypersonic threats.

WIKI

According to official statements, SİPER-A will feature an active electronically scanned array (AESA) RF seeker and a high-agility quick reaction capability for engaging ballistic missile threats during their terminal phase. The system is reportedly intended to counter short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) and, within a limited engagement envelope, some medium-range ballistic missiles (MRBMs).

The interceptor is expected to employ hit-to-kill engagement principles similar in operational role to the MIM-104 Patriot PAC-3 family, using maneuvering thrusters for enhanced agility during high-altitude interception profiles.

Ukraine is very effective at killing incoming drones and cruise missiles, but ballistic missiles are very difficult to stop. I won’t be surprised though if they eventually solve that problem. Early in the war they were begging for tanks and artillery; eventually they developed drones and mass drone manufacturing that have made tanks more or less obsolete. They begged for HMARS and Tomahawks, but eventually developed their own equivalents. And the ability to mass-produce them.

If Russia does not agree to end this war they will lose it. And Putin will not survive losing it.
