California’s homicide rate fell to a record low in 2025 as every major statewide crime category declined from the previous year, according to new data released Wednesday by the California Department of Justice.

The newly released statistics show California recorded its lowest homicide rate since statewide crime reporting began in 1966. Officials also reported year-over-year declines in robbery, violent crime, property crime and motor vehicle theft.

Thank you very much and God bless you.

The governor’s office also highlighted longer-term trends since Gov. Gavin Newsom took office in 2019. During that period, the homicide rate has declined 20%, robbery is down 31%, property crime has fallen 24%, motor vehicle theft has dropped 19%, and violent crime is down 3%, according to the state

No Newsom it has nothing to do with you. Trump closed the border and deported the criminals

It isn’t a crime if it isn’t written up, and made a part of the permanent record. It isn’t a crime if a crime was committed, but no arrest was made. How many criminals were picked up, but not charged? How many actual felony crimes were committed, but were reduced to a misdemeanor?

Regardless, we've learned how the left monkeys with these crime statistics.

Fail to report. Dumb down felonies into misdemeanors. Consolidate multiple crimes into one "episode."

Reducing homicide to battery, etc helped the stats.

Did they change the definition of “crime”?

“Reported” crimes dropped.

When you legalize $900 of theft, as we had done in Cali, a whole lot of crime is no longer crime.

And when everyone figures out that it is a waste of time reporting the crimes that still get counted, crimes simply don’t get reported in the first place.

This is your Gavin Newsom lesson for how to make crime go away.

The headline seems to indicate that the source is the federal DOJ, not the California version of an agency with the same initials. Besides, it’s California, so how long will mail-in crime be allowed to be counted?

“Thank Newsom. He’ll take the credit no matter what.”

And the voters will elect and re-elect his lackeys no matter what.

Exactly, it’s closed border and mass deportations!

Also some would be illegal criminals don’t want to be caught and deported, so there’s a strong deterrent to lay low.

“ How many actual felony crimes were committed, but were reduced to a misdemeanor?”

Everything you mentioned in your post happened in DC several years ago, but only came to light after a Congressional investigation. They’ve only now decided on the scapegoats, but nothing will happen to them or the people above them that knew, and maybe directed this program.

Border closed and mass deportations, as well as self-deportations. MILLIONS of dangerous criminals sent home!

MAGA!

Gavin SHOULD be kissing President Trump’s backside...BIGLY!
