The city of Columbus, Ohio, home to one of the largest Somali populations in the United States, is facing backlash on social media over a now-deleted post celebrating the raising of the Somali flag.
"Happy Somali Independence Day!" The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department posted on X on Wednesday. "As we celebrate the unification of the Trust Territory of Somaliland and the State of Somaliland into the Somali Republic in 1960, City Hall will be raising the flag of Somalia. "
The post was quickly picked up by conservatives on social media, with many wondering why the city of Columbus would celebrate Somali independence so strongly, particularly given the proximity to the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Raising the flag of another nation shows their allegiance to another nation.
The Somali flag is almost identical to the Bonnie Blue Flag, the first flag of the Confederacy. However, the Bonnie Blue Flag is royal blue, and the Somali flag is baby blue.
What if Trump issued an EO stating “any individual not legally in the United States or on a visa is hereby recognized as a diplomat of the country to which they owe allegiance”? Then deportation becomes “expelling a diplomat” and their offspring do not become citizens.
We can play word games too. It would mean a lot of work for the State Department, but it would be worth it, no?

I once came upon a pamphlet I had owned as a youngster. It was the official American Flag rules as well as a brief history. Things like a spotlight on a flag at night means you could dispense with a ceremony of taking it down and folding it in a certain manner. And no state, country or company flag higher or replacing the American flag in a row.
I can’t remember if the Gay Pride or BLM flags should be to the left or right of the Somai flag, thought.
They should hoist a skull and crossbones flag, too, in honor of somali piracy.
This gets greater scrutiny now than it would normally get b/c of how close it is to our own Independence Day.
Somebody needs to tear that greasy rag (The Somali Flag) down and burn it. After all the fraud and grifting they do, that flag is a disgrace!
What happens in the leftist shithole of Columbus has nothing to do with Ohio being a “red” state, as was highlighted in the headline.
OTOH there’s every chance that November will reveal Ohio to not be quite so “red” as some believe.

Somaliland seceded from Somolia in 1991 to get away from the garbage like Ilan Omar. It’s a different country.

Amazing that late in the Republic there was that kind of well earned respect for our flag.
