Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Josh Hawley presided over a brief pro forma Senate session on Tuesday morning. The procedural move prevented President Trump from making recess appointments. The action drew swift backlash from conservative voters.
The Senate convened at 8:00 a.m. No official business was conducted during the session [1]. The next pro forma session is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, at 3:30 p.m. [2]
Critics immediately took to social media to express frustration over the procedural move. Voters criticized the session for blocking the president’s agenda.
RINO of the Day award goes to Senator Josh Hawley of Mo.
He presided over today’s Pro-Forma session blocking President Trump from making any recess appointments.
I previously erroneously stated it was Senator Joni Ernst. She presided over the previous Pro-Forma session.
Other voters expressed anger that the establishment ritual was prioritized over the mandate of the recent election. They directed their disappointment directly at the Missouri senator.
“It means Americans are once again being told their landslide victory was meaningless because the Senate has ‘traditions,'” stated X user @luvgod [3].
The Senate will adjourn on the 28th until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1 [4]. At 5:30 p.m., the chamber will hold a cloture vote on the nomination of Kathleen Lane for a federal district judge position in Montana [5]. Cloture has also been filed for Jeffrey Kuhlman to be a district judge in Kansas [6].
AltonMo.com reached out to Senator Hawley’s office regarding his participation in the blocking of President Trump’s agenda and have received no reply.

RINO all the way
Need to vote him out
Let him know how you feel
MAIN OFFICE PHONE. 202-224-6154
Declare any session without a quorum to be null and void, and then proceed with the recess appointments.
Good post.
The Republican senate needs to be called out for undermining president Trump.
Just tried calling
All of his lines are tied up LOL
Kinda old news..................
What little good that’s doing, other than to show that we’re hugely outnumbered.
It looks like the Republicans are working overtime to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They do that everytime they get the majority.
What a fraud Hawley is, a real snake oil salesman. He talks a good but this is who he really is.
1. Old, retired types who don’t have long-term career interests in any position. These aren’t likely to be interested in taking a U.S. government role in the D.C. area unless they’re already living there (i.e., they’re already swamp creatures).
2. Political insiders who have made a career out of migrating between government roles where they do favors for big financial backers and outside roles in NGOs or Beltway think tanks where they get paid big money for the favors they did (John Bolton might be a perfect example of this).
3. “Normal” nominees who could pass the Senate confirmation process.
The first two groups are people who are either bad candidates or ineffective ones. The third group doesn’t even need a recess appointment in the first place.
I.e, "our traditions are more important than the obvious intent of the voters".
The country faces a new, different enemy, one that is anti-MAGA and borders on "domestic enemies". This one clearly calls for using all the tools available under our Constitution and laws.
Obama-Biden, et al, has made it clear that when the MAGAs lose, they will be labeled "domestic enemies" and dealt with consistent with their view of their power.
And... Whether or not Trump gets to seat a successor, if only for a few months, the facts are that the department still has to be run, and the “acting” heads are still working for Trump.
I literally get MANY HUNDREDS of emails and texts from every corner of the GOP, every week. I can’t stop them, because they start up from a different phone number or slightly different email address. Even asking to be removed only stops that one “list” they copied you into, and the moment you ask to be removed, they make a new list to do all the harassment through.
I can’t tell you how mad this makes me. My wife just gets a portion of the deluge, because I was the one who have given to HUNDREDs of races across the country, over the years.
GOPEs like this terrible example of a man help solidify not giving again.
These people seek to damage the country.
I will still always vote, as I can, but helping by giving such jerks money is a bridge too far.
41 Trump cabinet nominees still not confirmed. 😣
You might have a point if it wasn’t for the clear and obvious pattern going back to 2016 that the GOPe has moved heaven and earth to keep Trump from making any recess appointments. So, we end up with treasonous scumbags like Wray and Barr. The rats will do the opposite.
“Even here on FR”
Starting to wonder myself just how many have been replaced with Agentic AI Claude bots and Tavistock UK agents.
I called. Had to leave a message. I’m sure Hawley himself will listen to it.
That is important and very unhelpful because Trump is dealing with a limited and very precious amount of time.
As many have posted here, Trump should not be encumbered by handcuffs or unnecessary speed bumps imposed by Rs.
Until the Rs think about politics as a team sport as does the Ds, we will remain a step behind the Ds whether or not we have a dynamic leader.
All Senators seem to do it.
Thune sucks. Worse than McConnell.
My Senator, Hagerty, did it too.
Lost my vote for 2028.
