As readers may recall, in recent years, after announcing a rare bit of activity from yours truly, I have generally observed that I am engaging in such against the advice of my doctors.
So it was that I spent over a month in Ukraine, venturing hither and yon and trying to stay one step ahead of the bombs and drones. I was there to research a personal project, but did not manage to complete my work, and was planning to return in late summer. I understand that, in a world where Victoria Nuland and Lindsey Graham lob darts at the map blindfold in order to select the next hapless country to implode, it can be hard for Americans to retain interest in this or that passing quagmire, but I find it helpful to see these places for myself and felt bad at not having returned to Ukraine even as the conflict has outlasted the Great War.
So I was pleasantly surprised to find that I'd survived not only Putin's nightly bombardments but also prolonged exposure to eastern Ukrainian cuisine. I was thinking, since that went so well, I'd rest up for a few weeks and maybe head to the Persian Gulf.
Alas, that will not now be happening.
Instead, I have spent much of the time since last we spoke in a coma.

(Instead, I have spent much of the time since last we spoke in a coma.)
Yikes 😳
✝️✝️🙏🙏🛐🛐
Given his absence, I had been under the impression he ahead gotten another heart attack that had forced him into bedrest for an extended period.
But falling into a coma?
Yikes.
(And, as ever, he still maintains his self-deprecating sense of humor. The line about the doc who thought Trudeau was still PM got a chuckle.)
He has a way with the written word like few others.
Perhaps cardiac related?
Medication?
Alcohol?
One cannot tell. I am just glad he is on the mend.
Although he does seem to be aiming for death... sadly.
So true!
Thanks for posting this. I had been very worried about Mark for some time now.
He’s brilliant. I always thought he should write the impeachment declaration of Adam Schiff.
I don’t think it’s any secret that he’s rather fatalistic about the fate of the West given how things have gone over the past 25 years.
What could have been corrected with little pain will now require great hardship and blood to fix.
Steyn may well need the Darth Cheney cardiac treatment: a mechanical artificial heart until a suitable transplant bio-heart is “volunteered.” If indeed his health otherwise is up to such procedures by American medical standards. Of course French and British health care systems wouldn’t spend for either. And if he were to return to Canada that government would love to inflict MAID on its most glib adversary. Perhaps Elon or some other right thinker with loads of spare loot will invest in such care. However, it may be Steyn’s exquisitely musical soul couldn’t tolerate the noise of a mechanical heart.
I know.
He sounded the alarms early.
We all could see what is coming.
A substitute host for one of the “Clubland Q&A” shows mentioned Mark ran out of some medications while in Ukraine which caused a problem.
Given the frail nature of his health Mark might want to avoid war zones.
I pray he recovers.
We need him to return to the fight for our civilization.
“Instead, I have spent much of the time since last we spoke in a coma.” Don’t have those anymore, but the blackouts and the brownouts can be interesting.

Note that the few living parts are very dark, going on black.
Rumor has it that it's being used by George Soros right now,
so won't be available for a long time yet.
Prayers up for Mark.

Get well, Mark. We need your voice. To fight the sod-bollocking leftists.
