The Israeli defence minister, Israel Katz, has said that Israeli troops would not withdraw from southern Lebanon, further complicating Iran peace talks as fighting in Lebanon continues to be an obstacle to permanent peace.
Speaking on stage in an interview in Tel Aviv, Katz said Israeli troops would remain in south Lebanon – echoing sentiments from the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
The US and Iran signed an accord last week extending a fragile ceasefire and setting the stage for 60 days of talks meant to lead to a permanent peace. The first hiccups to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) came last week after Israel continued its campaign in south Lebanon, leading Iran to threaten closure of the strait of Hormuz.
the US and Iran’s interpretation of the MOU has significantly differed, particularly over Lebanon. Iran has insisted that Israel needed to stop its war there and withdraw its troops in the south of the country. Israel has occupied large swathes of south Lebanon in what it calls a “security zone”.

Is what it is. Israel has a right to defend itself.
Is what it is. Israel has a right to defend itself.
If the US were under stated terrorist attacks from a powerful and armed group and our people at the border in, say, the north, had to end school semesters, avoid going shopping, avoid travel, and hunker down in underground shelters as sirens went off night after night, we would say “no, we are going to fight them.”
Even if some diplomats were cautioning it would complicate the sellout deals they were agreeing to in paneled boardrooms with catered top chef meals and chauffeured limos.
Was Israel agreeing to withdraw from Lebanon part of the MOU?
It is the Mullahs of Tehran that are undermining the “peace” process insisted that Trump side with them tying Lebanon to that process. They are playing Trump for a chump. He may let them get away with it till after the Mid Terms.
The US signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran that ends the recent war, lifts naval blockades, and initiates a 60-day negotiation period regarding nuclear programs and sanctions relief.
Israel strongly opposes the US deal, because it insufficiently meets Israel’s goals.
The US-Iran agreement includes provisions calling for
a cessation of Israeli hostilities in southern Lebanon.
Netanyahu stated Israel is not bound by the agreement because Lebanon is part of Israel’s plans for a Greater Israel. To that end, Netanyahu said the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will continue operating in a security zone inside Lebanon as long as necessary.......thumbing his nose at Trump.
The US-Iran agreement leaves Israelis in a profound state of shock after Israel lured Trump into war by assuring Trump incessantly bombing Iran would leave them “too weak” to fight back.
As the US-Iran peace deal progresses, Trump is vigorously pursuing
diplomacy (since bombing flopped). This has left Israel bewildered.
Netanyahu’s been sidelined instead of being in charge of US foreign policy.
Israel will not place itself under an obligation which impairs the safety and security of Israel or its people.
Israel doesn’t wish to be in Lebanon, but circumstances have forced its hand.
It is up to others to ensure that it is safe for Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanon.
Israel and its military will be as patient as prudence allows.
So, the Guardian squadron of misfits, science flunkouts, and wierd people will offer to step in and replace real soldiers to fight the low-life third-world MUSLIMs that are causing all the trouble, right?
(Bwahahaha)
Furthermore, is there anything to "undermine" at this point?
“Israel strongly opposes the US deal, because it insufficiently meets Israel’s goals.”
The MOU has no binding on Israel NOT BECAUSE the MOU does not meet certain goals of Israel. It is not binding on Israel because Israel was not made a co-negotiator and co-party in the MOU and the U.S. cannot by itself, without Israel, negotiate anything about Israel.
Tying Lebanon to the MOU was dead on arrival.
Ukrainian drones have taken Russian refineries out of service time after time, even at distances much further than exist in the Iranian conflict.
Israel can knock out the Iranian oil industry and most or all of its nitric acid industry.
It is the duty of the government of Israel to provides its people with safety and security insomuch as possible.
Israel is undermining the peace talks?
Eh, no. Iran’s proxy Hezbollah is undermining the peace talks.
But that fact doesn’t mesh with the left’s rule that Israel is always wrong, and Trump is always wrong. So, let’s not go there. Right, ‘Guardian’?
Who can blame them?
Add to the fact they killed the kin too which causes a lot of butthurt/motivation of Iran's military (Which is still robust btw). Add to the fact they double-tapped a school which killed a lot of pupils. This stuff resonates with the psychotic Islamic rural element that has a lot of weaponry. A Cluster F' of monumental proportions. Too much faggotry in Israel for God to save them too. No one is showing any type of humility at all who thinks God is on their side.
They aren’t derelict
They are unable to
Hezbollah is still too much for them
Regrettably
Pining for the Gemayel Haddad SLA days here but they ain’t coming back
Is Hezbollah going to leave Lebanon?
Or does the US recognize them as the government of that country?
It is the duty of the US govt to provide American families with safety and
security without annoying interference from self-serving foreign governments.
Hey Commie Guardian! Let me fix it for you. “IDF to stay in Lebanon to keep Hezbollah from derailing peace talks”
