Trump and Cassidy clash over war powers vote in meeting with Republican senators
ABC ^

President Donald Trump clashed with Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy in a meeting with Republican senators on Wednesday, multiple sources told ABC News, over the war powers resolution passed Tuesday in the Senate -- a rare rebuke of Trump that saw with four Republicans voting with Democrats.

Multiple sources described the clash between Trump and Cassidy as a shouting match. Senate Majority Leader John Thune tried to intervene to de-escalate the situation and other senators tried to jump in to ease tensions over the resolution, which aims to limit Trump's ability to wage war in Iran but does not have the force of law.

Cassidy was one of four GOP senators who voted with Democrats in favor of the resolution that the House had passed earlier this month. Those votes along with two Republican absences allowed the resolution to pass by a 50-48 vote.

(snip)

Cassidy, who was one of seven Republican senators to vote for Trump's impeachment in his first term, lost his primary for re-election in May against a candidate Trump recruited to run against him.

Somebody tell Cassidy to Hopalong.

Only older FReepers will know who that was.

“Hopalong Cassidy, famously played by actor William Boyd, rode a handsome white horse named Topper. Purchased by Boyd in 1937, Topper became an iconic fixture in 66 western feature films and 52 television episodes, and was named after the popular Topper book series by Grace Bradley (Boyd’s wife).”

Amen. Did you see the look on Thune’s smug face at the end of Trump’s impromptu press conference after the meeting? Talk about a punk.

ARTICLE I, SECTION 8:

“The Congress shall have power...To make rules for the government and the regulation of the land and naval forces”

“the President shall terminate any use of United States Armed Forces with respect to which such report was submitted (or required to be submitted)”

The report concerned Iran’s support of terrorism I believe.

The freedom of navigation of the claimed waters of the UAE and Oman may not have been mentioned and escorting civilian ships to prevent Iranian attacks on them might be a new use.

New reported problem
New use of force
New 60 days for that use

What Trump should have done was to ask the Congress to change the law to pause the 60-day War Powers Resolution for ceasefires:

Senators, I ‘d love to try to verbally reason with these Iranians and make a deal with them, but the War Powers Resolution doesn’t give me the extra time I might need. Therefore, I’m asking you....

Ha. Wheels helped but the ones driven by motors are why we don’t have horses around to ride on and pull our carriages and wagons except for Amish places.

In a documentary about the early years of the auto, Bill Moyers read from “experts” who concluded that cities such as New York due to the predicted population increase and the need for thousands more horses year by year, would be buried under a certain large amount of tons of horse feces and horse urine calculated by the experts into the 20th century. Unsolvable, they predicted.

Always listen to experts. /S

This sort of horseshit weaseling should be beneath all Freepers.

It’s the same war, with the same enemy. Carried on for 30 days without the authorization of Congress, and then, instead of withdrawing during the next 30 days as required without the authorization of Congress the WH carried on the war.

He won’t be impeached for it, as he should, because in the end the Deep State wants and controls the Imperial Presidency.

I’m always amazed how time and again the neocons get a parade of suckers to fall for it.

Why would we need a formal ceasefire when Trump assured us we were not in a war?
