Ex-Mobster-Turned Lawmaker Who Claims 15 Murders Accused Of Threatening To Bash Man’s Head With Baseball Bat

Englishtown, New Jersey, councilman and former mafia hitman John Alite is being accused of threatening to hit a man with a baseball bat, following his arrest last Friday on charges of loan sharking and extortion.

Alite, a former hitman for the Gambino crime family, has been “charged with multiple counts of theft by extortion (second degree), corporate misconduct (second degree), usury (second degree), and terroristic threats,” according to a statement from the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. CBS News reported in 2015 that Alite killed as many as 15 people. “He also says he shot 30 to 40 people and beat more than one hundred others with pipes and baseball bats,” CBS News reported at the time. Stephen Locrotondo, 67, of Bridgewater, New Jersey, was also arrested for usury and conspiracy alongside Alite.

Alite “specifically threatened to take a baseball bat to the head of one person,” NJ.com reported.

“Mr. Alite was accused of granting loans with rates exceeding 50 percent annually before shaking victims down for money and property by threatening them with violence, according to court documents,” the New York Times reported. “Mr. Alite used his company, Straightened-Out Entertainment, to promote the scheme and made at least $75,000, prosecutors said.”

According to the Times, a search of Alite’s house found multiple weapons, including “two slapjacks, metal knuckles, an expandable baton, six baseball bats and approximately two dozen switchblade knives and other types of knives.” Citing police reports, NJ.com noted that the weapons are important to the case because Alite “threatened to hit an individual with a baseball bat across his head, and indicated that he has ‘gut’ people like ‘fish,’ amongst other threats,” in the course of collecting loan debts.

“These arrests are the result of rigorous investigative work and the strong cooperation between the Division of Criminal Justice and New Jersey State Police, who work tirelessly every day in the pursuit of justice,” said Attorney General Jennifer Davenport in an official statement. “Our office is dedicated to ensuring that all businesses conduct themselves fairly and lawfully. The conduct alleged in this case was anything but, and we will work to hold those who cheat and steal accountable.”

No court date has been set at this time.

Looks like William Buckley needs to look up the meaning of ‘former’.

“ How is a professional hitman not in prison for life?”

He turned state’s evidence and testified for the prosecution. Just like Sammy the Bull.

He had an effective campaign slogan - He knows how to connect with people. Left unsaid wat that he was connecting a baseball bat with peoples' heads.

Alite flipped and testified against John Gotti in December of 2009. The jury though did not believe Alite and let Gotti walk. Nevertheless, Alite got a reduced sentence of ten years on various charges in return for his cooperation with the government. Within a year Alite was released, with five years supervision.

The standard for public office in Democrat dominated New Jersey. Platner in Maine knows his past is no problem for Democratic voters.
