A Texas judge who was disciplined for declining to officiate same-sex weddings because of her religious beliefs has secured a legal victory, receiving a $10,000 settlement and more than $630,000 in attorneys' fees as similar litigation involving judges across the state continues.
First Liberty Institute announced Friday that a Travis County district court awarded the settlement to Judge Dianne Hensley, a Waco-based judge, who was sanctioned by the Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct after declining to perform same-sex weddings.
The court's ruling, issued June 16, not only awarded Hensley the maximum compensatory damages allowed under the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act but also barred the Commission from "investigating, sanctioning, or disciplining" Hensley for refusing to officiate same-sex weddings because of her religious beliefs, regardless of whether she continues to perform marriages for opposite-sex couples.

$10,000? The Kleins in Oregon were divested of $135,000 for refusing to bake a cake for two sodomites.
This is hardly justice.
Marriage is essentially a contract for the production of children. Obviously that gay stuff doesn’t work.
Why don’t mlb players put into their contracts that they don’t have to promote cultural positions?
Too bad folks that don’t work for the government don’t get this kind of break. How many times was the cake guy in Colorado sued and won? Got nothing but a “not guilty” as far as I know.
There is an open undisguised attack on religious rights, under the attempt to appease the perverts and freaks. Battle is not over.
$10000 for the plaintiff and $630000 in attorney fees? Sometimes I think the attorneys egg this kind of crap on for the lawsuits and ultimate payoffs for them.
Windfalls for lawyers
STEP BY STEP
Almost all laws are written by who? Lawyers yup
They should have created a new category since a "union" is not possible.
It's a contract at best...nothing more. It is NOT a marriage.
No, it's not. I can't stand this argument, and when we fall into this fallacy we give massive ammo to the enemy left.
Marriage does not comprise any of the legal characteristics of a contract. It may involve a contract, but it's not a contract in itself. Otherwise, no-fault divorce would not be possible.
At the end of the day it takes a male and a female in some way shape form or fashion to create a life......try as they may, the sexually deviant cannot get around that.
God saw the disease of homosexuality coming before HE ever created the world.
I dunno. If the homos were really rich, could I identify as their only child?
Marriage is obviously an agreement between two people. Sometimes even between two families. Sure sounds like a contract to me. No fault divorce is merely the part of the social rot that has occurred.
Phillips STILL doesn't bake wedding cakes, according to his website. This statement appears in the wedding cake section of the store's website: "Masterpiece Cakeshop is not currently accepting requests to create custom wedding cakes. Please check back in the future."
The issue still isn't settled.
No amount of money could convince me to claim two queers as my dad’s.
My sister was visiting a house in Wichita to see its many life-size statuary on the property. she asked where the family got the money for all the beautiful statues and they said from being on one class action lawsuit, the tampon shock case. the women got $40 coupons and he got millions.
I thought marriages were an optional thing judges did.
