Macron tells Zelensky he had ‘difficult’ meeting with Trump ahead of Ukraine talks as duo caught in hot-mic moment

French President Emmanuel Macron revealed Tuesday that he had a “difficult” meeting with President Trump the previous evening as the closely watched G7 summit got underway.
“Yesterday we had a difficult discussion with President Trump,” Macron told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of a group session about Russia’s invasion of its neighbor.
The tension is reflective of the strained relationship between Trump and Macron as well as other European leaders, who remain frustrated with the American president over his war with Iran, threats to annex Greenland, and his critiques of Zelensky and Ukraine.
“Trump is being his usual self,” a European official told NBC News of the president’s mood at the summit. “Nice sometimes and not so nice sometimes.”
Macron and Zelensky were caught on a hot mic as they walked the grounds of the Hotel Royal in this resort town discussing the best way to approach the American president.

No wonder Macron’s wife slapped him on camera.
The president would probably like to give Macron a good smack too.

Trump just had his 80th birthday (so did I).
That leads to a much lower patience level in suffering fools gladly.
Notice he’s been badmouthing Bibi for going too slow and his patience with the lying Iranian negotiators already wore as thin as papyrus.

I don’t understand that there are so many posters here that cheer for Putin and hate Ukraine and everyone who supports it. I would not have thought that Putin still had enough money to pay that many people. And to support Trump no matter what? The USA is a member of NATO and should be helping protect Europe against Putin. Europe is our largest economic market.

Europe is our largest economic market.
Yeah, but that's collectively; all the countries in the EU.
Individually, other countries are larger trading partners, like Mexico and Canada and China.

Difficult meeting?
Did Trump cuss out Macron too? He just ripped Netanyahu a new one on Sunday. Maybe he still had some choice words for Macron.

We have been doing that since the end of WWII. And we continue to do it, along with defending a lot of other countries against Russia and China and N.Korea and Iran.
BTW, even if the NATO countries did not provide as much as the U.S. to defend Europe, they still put up a great deal of support for their own defense.
And guess what? We and the NATO countries will continue defending Europe and N.America.
So, what was your real point, other than nonsense?

We have been doing that since the end of WWII.Made sense at the time. Not in 2026. Especially since we no longer have "shared values" in common.
Alliances are not supposed to be permanent.
President Washington warned us of this in his "Farewell Address".

Still makes sense, since no individual country in Europe is as capable as the U.S. and with most countries in the alliance still maintaining their own cultures and identities, that alliance can be called secure and/or permanent.
When it comes to 'values', we still have most of the same values as most EU countries, no matter what their problems with immigrants that don't share the EU values. When MUslims and/or Russia take them over, we can then move on to defending ourselves ONLY.
Alliances are not supposed to be permanent.
Why not? If countries remain friends and share most of their values and depend on each other for many other things unrelated to defense, then, alliances can last for as long as the member parties see the need. The need to defend against Russia and other countries, is still there, and more so lately.
President Washington warned us of this in his "Farewell Address".
President Washington was ignorant of the world to come. He could not have foreseen how world wars would occur and what the post-wars countries would look like and what they would need. Bring Washington into current times, and I'm sure he would be just like Reagan or Trump. Reagan and Trump never advised about becoming isolationist or not caring about the plights of other countries.

no individual country in Europe is as capable as the U.S.That's because they refused to spend $$$ on their military so they can fund their generous welfare state instead because they know they can rely on us as their bodyguard.
That's a bad deal and finally Trump is calling them out for it.

Read my post again. I said no individual country in Europe is as capable as the U.S., and the EU partnership is a very 'iffy' organization; here today, in splitsville tomorrow.
