Thune Seeks FISA Renewal Without SAVE America Act
Newsmax ^ | 16 June 2026 | Sam Barron

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said the chamber aims to pass an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without including the SAVE America Act.

Thune is rebuffing President Donald Trump, who said he opposes any renewal of FISA that does not include the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship for voting.

Section 702 of FISA, which allows the U.S. to spy on foreigners overseas without a warrant, lapsed over the weekend, which Thune said is a risk to national security.

No problem. Veto. Rinse, repeat, until the Deep State says "pass this effing thing so we can get FISA back." Once the elections are fixed, fixing FISA will be trivial.

I didn’t think anyone could be worse than McConnell. That’s the thing about politicians, there are plenty of them willing to step up and show you what you thought was bad, wasn’t really the worst.

The SAVE Act is just common sense. Has Thune ever said why he’s against it?

It is becoming more than obvious that the REPUBLICANS like cheating as much as the DEMOCRATS.

"Section 702 of FISA, which allows the U.S. to spy on foreigners overseas without a warrant, lapsed over the weekend, which Thune said is a risk to national security."

Whenever I hear a Uniparty member use the phrase in bold, I interpret 'Deep State priorities' for 'national security'.

No Save Act, no 702. I'd prefer no 702 renewal ever.

which Thune said is a risk to national security

Allowing anybody and their dog to vote is a worse risk to national security, idiot Thune!

Well, I don’t think he’s actually worse than McConnell. Certainly McConnell is against this - when his brain clicks in from time to time. I don’t think it’s arguable Thune is worse that McConnell and probably a *little* better - but not much.

However, Thune was elected by his Republican colleages, so he speaks for them. Americans elected Trump, Republican senators elected Thune to stop Trump.

Republican senators: To hell with the American voters.

Exactly. That’s why I think we let FISA renew so that we can fix elections - then once we aren’t fighting this particular uphill battle 24/7 we can focus on things like getting FISA right so that we *CAN* collect critical intelligence *AND* protect rights at the same time. As long as Democrats win most or just shy of most elections that is NEVER going to happen.

So congress can spy on Americans but don’t require them to have ID to vote. Thune needs to go!!!

Secret courts and rigged elections. What not to like?

I agree completely - but that’s *WHY* we need the Save America Act - until we control 4 or 5 more seats in the Senate and there are about 4 or 5 less RINOs among them we’ll never get rid of Thune. But Thune knows if the numbers change that way he’s out. And that’s why he’s against SAVE America.

“Republican senators: To hell with the American voters.”

That’s the sentiment of all politicians. I used to think that politicians were slightly crooked, but most were not really evil. I have come around to realize ALL politicians, at least at the federal level, are so crooked they make the mafia look like Sunday school kids. And sadly, I believe many of those politicians are capable of incredible evil.

“allows the U.S. to spy on foreigners overseas without a warrant”

Spy on Foreigners?
I have no problem with that.

But don’t spy on American Citizens.
If you can’t spy on the 1st without spying on the 2nd, you can’t do it.

Toughtitties.

Will’s law may be at work here. It says any organization not specifically right wing will, in time become leftwing. Thune identifies more with senators of any party than with his constituents.

Trump has seriously damaged his credibility by clamoring for the renewal of this FISA abomination.

Thune, champion of the deep state Uniparty Wing, diligent in his assignments to impede anything Trump and his Walmart stinking deplorables are delusional enough to think might pass his senate desk.

He is the modern display of why a leader of a nation would appoint his horse to the Senate. Trump needs to make another example out of the guy.

Thune fights hard to keep spying on US citizens without a warrant but kills anything that would further free, fair, honest elections.

His actions have said enough, traitor to his oath.
