OMAHA — Dan Osborn, an Independent candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, at a town hall in Omaha last week, told attendees that he believed there should be mandatory five-year mental health checks for owners of AR-15s and similar “assault-style” rifles.
One guest asked Osborn if he could offer anything “other than ‘thoughts and prayers’—which makes us all want to throw up” regarding gun violence. Osborn responded with notable candor.

What is “gun violence”?
Been watching YouTube highway arrest videos. Five year mental health evaluations on anyone caught with fentanyl.
Sounds like we have a reporter in love. But somehow, I doubt that forcing every gun owner in Nebraska to undergo a mental health exam is going to go over too well with Nebraska voters. So one man's "notable candor" is more objectively characterized as "politically tone deaf" and "monumentally stupid."
You can no more do this than require mental health checks for voting or free speech.
Violence is the very purpose of guns, in the extremely rare instances that we need them.
I don't want leftists evaluating me for my "fitness for owning a gun."
The people that celebrate assassinations want to check on people’s mental health?
“Dan Osborn, an Independent candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, at a town hall in Omaha last week, told attendees that he believed there should be mandatory five-year mental health checks for owners of AR-15s and similar “assault-style” rifles. I think Dan needs a mental health check.
I propose daily mental health exams for all elected politicians or those running for election.
Yet it is too much to get an ID to vote, which is also a Constitutional right.
Too bad all of my guns were lost in a flood.
How about Constitutionality exams for politicians?
Anyone on psychotropic and/or gender-altering drugs needs to be confined to a mental health facility.
I counter that all candidates for congress and senate be required to take mental health evaluations, whether sitting or new candidates.
A mandatory 5 year mental health evaluation for anyone registering as a candidate for any elected office or being considered for a political appointment would be of far more benefit for the nation. Just look at all the nut jobs we’ve put up with the last 250 years.
Why stop there? How about mental health exams to qualify citizens to exercise their 1A rights? To drive a car. To own property. To move to another home. To leave home.
How about semi-annual mental health exams for senators and congressmen?
My guns were all lost in a tragic boating accident over the Marianas Trench.
