Iran hasn't reached a final decision on a peace deal with the U.S., an Iranian official said Thursday.

"So far, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement," foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said in a statement provided to Agence France-Presse.

The statement comes after President Trump said earlier in the day that the U.S. had reached a "great settlement" regarding the Iran war.

A letter of intent or memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran was likely to be signed early next week, two sources familiar with the diplomatic efforts told CBS News.

Following Mr. Trump's declaration, however, Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, which is associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, quoted a "knowledgeable source close to the Iranian negotiating team" who denied the president's claim about an agreement on an initial deal and stated that "no text of the initial memorand

So, I find myself idly wondering: Just how much all the Iranian kneepads that seem to have been distributed all through Western Media (both of the Dinosaur and Anti-Social Variety of Media)- just how much did that cost for Iran? The idea that they’d all be doing it for free...?

Whenever the deal is signed I hope it doesn’t involve pallets of cash being loaded onto cargo planes.

So did Trump NOT say that he had a "deal" with all parties involved, including Israel and the "highest" Iranian officials, but then the Iranians came back and have said that there is no "deal?"

How is that inaccurate this morning?

Agreed...whatever happened to the “don’t negotiate with terrorists” policy.

It only ends well with regime change...

In the president’s own words....

Donald J. Trump

@realDonaldTrump

Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening. Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly.

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
