New Iran peace proposal triggers tense Trump-Netanyahu call

President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed a new effort to reach a deal with Iran in a difficult call on Tuesday, three sources said, with one source saying Netanyahu's "hair was on fire" after the call. Why it matters: A revised peace memo was drafted by Qatar and Pakistan with input from the other regional mediators to try to bridge the gaps between the U.S. and Iran, the sources said. It comes with Trump vacillating over ordering a massive strike on Iran and holding out for a deal. Netanyahu is highly skeptical about the negotiations and wants to resume the war to further degrade Iran's military capabilities and weaken the regime by destroying its critical infrastructure. Trump continues to say he thinks a deal can be reached, but that he's ready to resume the war if it isn't. "The only question is do we go and finish it up or are they gonna be signing a document. Let's see what happens," he said on Wednesday at the Coast Guard Academy. Trump also said Netanyahu "will do whatever I want him to do" on Iran, though he also said they had a good relationship. The two leaders have had temporary disagreements on Iran before but have remained closely coordinated throughout the war. Iran has confirmed it's reviewing an updated proposal, but has not yet shown any signs of flexibility. Zoom in: Pakistan, Qatar and the other mediators — Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt — have been working over the last several days to refine the proposal to bridge the gaps, the three sources say. According to two Arab officials and an Israeli source, Qatar recently presented the U.S. and Iran with a new draft.

With this, the economy, the midterms coming up, and President Trumps approval ratings where they are. Best be saying your prayers for President Trump.

Hopefully we are using this time out to restock the Iranian “leaders” with bigger better pagers.

The War Powers Resolution means Trump’s hands are tied. The Iranians know that and don’t take him seriously.

Trump should turn over negotiations to the Israelis.

Bibi, it’s 100% yours. Aim for success.

Good Luck,

Don

Reports on the radio say Iran is insisting the nuclear dust isn’t leaving Iran. Time for a haunting Moonlight sonata is nearing.

The real question is what is the motivation of the individuals who leaked this information to the press?

Trump should turn over negotiations to the Israelis.

Obviously, to allow a foreign government control over a policy that impacts our military forces in harm's way would be a complete abdication of his responsibilities as commander-in-chief.

For this, would be deservedly thrown out of the White House on his ass.

Why anyone believes anything Axios says is beyond me. I’m sure that the “unnamed sources” live in Iran.

The U.S. should continue in negotiations (as useless as they actually are) with Iran, at least through the November elections.

After November, if Iran tries to start up its nuclear weapons program or continues to block tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, then it should be a completely different ending.

So right. I don’t know why so many on FR get their panties in a wad when someone posts something from Axios or other far left propaganda machines.

As I understand it, Trump is not really saying he believes a deal can be reached. He’s just playing to give the military time to replenish its supplies.

To answer that question, I'd suggest answering the same question about who leaked THIS one to the New York Times:

Trump decided to go to war with Iran — after a closed-door Israeli pitch and despite deep internal divisions inside his own team.

My sense is that this stupid "war" has been a disaster from the start, and the Trump administration is looking for any way to get out of it ASAP.

If Trump's past is any indication, the first sign of his pivot will be when he starts blaming other people for the fiasco. Along those lines, I'm predicting that Pete Hegseth will be fired no later than August 1st.

I have an uncomfortable feeling that President Trump is being sucked into a Charley Brown football game and has already taken too many kicks at the ball while Lucy (the Iranians) keeps snatching the ball away and buys more time with each attempted kick.

Pakistan= Pro-Iran. Lie about it.
Qatar= Pro-Iran. Lie about it.
Turkey= Pro-Iran mentality. Radicalized already.
Egypt= Not pro-Iran, but potentially enablers of Hamas.
Saudi Arabia= Don’t like Iran at all.

3-4 of the nations participating in the ‘peace’ negotiations are basically ‘Iran’ linked or enablers.

To me, Trump is trying to reduce a death toll, but the negotiations aren’t ever going to be in good faith. Iran is just looking for the ‘best deal’ and they are going to ignore it anyway.

See the link in Post #13. I have a feeling (not an uncomfortable one) that President Trump is ready to cut a deal with Iran and pretend the stupid military campaign of the last three months never happened.

Before this whole thing started, President Trump basically sent two real estate agents to serve as his “envoys” in negotiations with Iran. So it’s hard to imagine any kind of scenario involving intermediaries that would seem unreasonable at this point.

The United States needs to persuade Turkey and Pakistan to turn against Iran. The territories adjacent to these two countries in Iran have ethnic groups that are more akin to Turks and Pakistanis than to the Persians. The best way to neutralize Iran is a ground invasion. Offering Turkey and Pakistan territorial gains for co-operation with the United States would be the best route. Both Turkey and Pakistan have good military forces. If they invade Iran in that country's western and eastern sides, then a joint American, Israeli, and Saudi invasion of the north shore of the Persian Gulf, with the U.S. Navy and U.S. and Israeli Air Forces on full attack through the Straits of Hormuz is needed. At that point, American, Israeli, Saudi, and UAE ground troops should land on the north shore of the Persian Gulf. A three front land war may break the power of the Iranian regime.
