One of President Donald Trump’s former Border Patrol goons has been on a tirade against his administration, claiming officials are retreating from the mass deportation crackdown that was initially promised.
Greg Bovino retired as Border Patrol “commander-at-large” earlier this year amid backlash for his leadership in Minnesota, where two protesters were shot dead by federal agents.

Agreed.
Some of those "protestors" were legitimately trying to kill ICE agents.
People don't realize the hour that we're in; enforcing deportations of illegals is a direct threat to Democrat power, and they were willing to kill to stop it.
Bovino understood the assignment. The people over him, however, bowed to PR pressure, instead of staying the course.
And now there's apparently a subtler change to "targeted enforcement", and the recent resignation of the Border Patrol Chief Mike Banks. There's apparently a sea change in the works.
It bodes poorly.

I think not. With increased talk of some sort of normalcy for dreamers & long-time illegals, working, paying taxes, with kids, with no memory of home, Trump is keeping deportations out of the headlines.
He's not chickening out, imho, he's trying to keep control of the house & senate because if we lose there, it's game over for all of the above.
Similar positioning with Iran and gas prices. How much time is needed to bring gas prices down, and then how long until energy costs fall and impact the rest of the economy affected by energy. If we / he misjudges here, just like, deportations, game over, house / senate lost.
