The Supreme Court will be releasing Opinions this morning at 10:00.
Scotusblog will be liveblogging the opinion release and we will be following along.
There are opinions pending in 35 cases from the October 2025 term. A list of cases from this term can be found here.
One case of interest is Trump v. Slaughter
Issues: (1) Whether the statutory removal protections for members of the Federal Trade Commission violate the separation of powers and, if so, whether Humphrey’s Executor v. United States should be overruled. (2) Whether a federal court may prevent a person’s removal from public office, either through relief at equity or at law.
Another is Little v Hecox
Issue: Whether laws that seek to protect women's and girls' sports by limiting participation to women and girls based on sex violate the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
And there is also Wolford v. Lopez
Issue: Whether the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit erred in holding that Hawaii may presumptively prohibit the carry of handguns by licensed concealed carry permit holders on private property open to the public unless the property owner affirmatively gives express permission to the handgun carrier.
And, Watson v. RNC
Issue: Whether the federal election-day statutes, 2 U.S.C. § 7, 2 U.S.C. § 1, and 3 U.S.C. § 1, preempt a state law that allows ballots that are cast by federal election day to be received by election officials after that day.
And, a lot more!

Issue: Whether Executive Order No. 14,160 complies on its face with the citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment and with 8 U.S.C. § 1401(a), which codifies that clause.
And,
Mullin v Doe
Issue: Whether the Trump administration can end the Temporary Protected Status program for Syrian nationals.
Five more weeks in the term and 35 cases to go.
Let's see what we get today.
SCOTUS ping!
The first Opinion.
Montgomery v. Caribe
It is by Justice Barrett, and it is unanimous.
Issue Area
Whether a federal statute, 49 U.S.C. § 14501(c), preempts a state common-law claim against a broker for negligently selecting a motor carrier or driver.
https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25pdf/24-1238_1b7d.pdf
Held: A claim that one company negligently hired another to transport goods is not preempted by the FAAAA because States retain authority to regulate safety “with respect to motor vehicles” under the Act.
(I’m sure this case was important to some people).
We have the second and final opinion of the day.
It is Jules v. Andre Balazs Properties
It is by Justice Sotomayor and it too is unanimous
Issue Area
Whether a federal court that initially exercises jurisdiction and stays a case pending arbitration maintains jurisdiction over a post-arbitration Section 9 or 10 application where jurisdiction would otherwise be lacking.
This is a case about the Federal Arbitration Act and whether a court that has previously put claims in a pending action on hold has the power to confirm or vacate a resulting arbitration award. The Supreme Court holds that it does.
This was an arbitration case so I’m sure it was of importance to those in that field.
Justice Sotomayor now leads the pack on most opinions released so far this term.
Well, no interesting cases for today. But the good news is that they are clearing out the smaller cases so as we move into the next couple of weeks, we will be getting the juicer cases.
They’ll probably wait until the final day of the term to issue the Opinion in the birthright citizenship case.
It’s a good thing everyone ignored this thread today. It was one of the boring release days.
Now 33 pending cases, 7 weeks left. (4.71/week)
I read your thread—and the decision summaries.
So do I
“I read your thread—and the decision summaries.”
Thank you!
There is not much excitement or interaction on a boring day such as today’s Opinions. But, since we never know which opinions will be released I have to just start the thread and see where it goes. There will probably be more Opinions released next Thursday. So I’ll do another thread then.
Thanks for the thread!
I'm waiting for the SCOTUS decision that I, Laz, shall be appointed President of the United States FOR LIFE. No elections for any other representatives, either. I will appoint them.
Me too. Thanks for posting.
...and I too appreciate these threads.
Since the 'opinion-writing-workload' is generally supposed to be balanced, it may be a bit noteworthy that Barret and Sotomayor got the assignments on today's unanimous rulings. You'd think that Jackson would get more of these simply because she's so rarely on the winning side.
Maybe this is because the Chief Justice doesn't trust her (or her clerks) to write anything judicially competent enough to stand as an example of the Court's work?

I’m sure that decision will be delivered on the last day of the term. After which the justices will get the hell outta Dodge(D.C.).
Thank you for posting this thread and all the other Supreme Court threads. I follow each & every one with interest!
They are holding that one until June 31st.
I've been looking at the decision in Montgomery v Caribe Transport.
The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that federal law does not shield freight brokers from state negligence lawsuits when they hire unsafe trucking companies.
How is this going to effect the hiring of illegal alien drivers?
This is a big win for trucking safety and holding brokers responsible for injuries/fatalities sustained when brokers contract with unsafe drivers.
They release rulings in reverse seniority order, IIRC. Not sure if it matters much discussing this day’s releases.
