An Alberta judge has quashed a separatist petition, saying the provincial government had a duty to consult with First Nations.
Justice Shaina Leonard says the petition should never have been issued.
Lawyers for several Alberta First Nations had argued the province’s referendum process and its use by separatists are unconstitutional, as there’s no requirement for Indigenous consultation.
They also said separation would violate treaty rights.
Lawyers for the province defended the process and pushed for the separatist petition to play out.
The separatist group Stay Free Alberta handed in its petition last week and boasted that it had nearly 302,000 names — well above its 178,000 requirement.

That being the case, if they feel they need to be considered, the reverse should be true on what ever they decide to do.
Consult the first nations? Another reason why the U.S. does not want any canuk province as a member of the United States.
If there is no provision for indian consultation, then there is no grounds to rule it unconstitutional. The same holds true for treaty rights.
indians make up shit as they please.
Welcome to the Hotel California....................
“Indians make up “sh**” as they please. That’s why they can kill eagles for the feathers. But if I shoot one, it’s 10 years in prison.
Leave and deport the judge ,LOL
Too true
Several years ago, I had a friend who was 1/4 Indian...his tribe was somewhere in Maine. He and his very interesting wife had just divorced. She was, as I recall, even more Indian than he was and taught classes at local university. He told me all kinds of things I never knew about tribal Indians, interesting and often sad. i.e. when the come of age (18?) they come into several thousand dollars from the US government. They buy trucks and drink the rest.
Tribal people run all the casinos in the area too, make tons of $$$. I went to casinos here with friend, Yes, certain machines are programmed to pay more. I found one the first time I played any of them. It kept paying and paying and......
Canaduh being ruled by the their Injuns might easily be an improvement over the carney barker....
“indians make up shit as they please”
So do leftist judges. Alberta never had a snowballs chance in Hell at getting freed from their east coast tyranny.
File a laches defense.
As a Caucasian, you may not even possess a feather you found.
Good tactic in the U.S., but alas in Canada ya can’t file one unless the statutory limitation period has expired.
Dated a full blooded Native American lady that was the most politically INCORRECT person. Besides her name, she liked to call herself Squaw. She liked others to call her Squaw.
One day, we were coming back from the Caribbean, so the Customs and baggage process took a while. We became separated amidst A LOT of people. So, I started yelling, not too loud, HEY SQUAW! People didn’t like it too much. They especially didn’t like it when she answered “Here I am, Honey” laughing and smiling the entire time.
And yet wind turbine farms get to kill them willy-nilly, under federal incidental taking permit.
So much for the 14th Amendment.
They can always choose our way for independence in 1776.
Ignore the black robed pinhead. Ignore the leader of the inferior warriors.
“Ce n’est pas termine’!”
(This is not over!) Alberta responds to The Man.
So the indigenous tribes consider themselves autonomous...until it doesn’t work for them?
Sounds like US Dhimmicraps...
