Wholesale prices in April posted their highest annual increase in more than three years, signaling more nettlesome inflation as pipeline costs intensify.
The producer price index rose a seasonally adjusted 1.4% for the month, much higher than the 0.5% Dow Jones consensus forecast and the upwardly revised 0.7% March increase, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. This was the largest monthly gain since March 2022.
On an annual basis, the index was up 6%, the biggest increase since December 2022.

That was a horrible report. Higher inflation and interest rates are on the way.
Welcome to Communist America in November.
My lovely wife has already started bashing Trump and I’m about half way there. I understand what he is doing and approve, but we live in the real world where inflation has a huge impact on us. If this keeps up the midterms are already lost.
Seriously, most people don't care what the stock market is doing when they can't afford gas and groceries.
This is frustrating. The first Trump Administration was a success because he was laser focused on the economy. The Dems threw the Russia distraction at him but apart from that, which was not in his control, he focused on sensible economic policies. Trump is doing a lot of good things in this term but there are a lot of distractions too and not nearly enough focus on creating a good economy. The economy right now is mixed at best. There are some good signs but then we get a report like this. Inflation will subside when the war stops but who knows when that will happen. And at this point, it likely won’t happen before the election or at least in time to get inflation under control to impact the election. Congress should be focusing on a major economic package right now. It isn’t.
My thoughts exactly
AS I have said before, perceptions of the economy will be baked in long before November.
“Welcome to Communist America in November.”
It looks that way to me.
There are still plenty of Freepers out there who insist on giving President Trump a standing ovation after he scores a goal into his own net — which is basically what has happened here.
The Iran War inflation is real - and it is killing low to middle income folks and retired folks like myself. When I counted up the extra gas cost, what that is adding to food and to eating out - it is massive and unsustainable. We have stopped eating out and many restuarants around us have close abruptly due to lack of business. Yes, we are indeed doomed to a commie take over by the left in the elections unless he starts paying attention to this and fixes it asap. The whole thing might have been another Israel fake out to get the US to do their work for them. They’ve done it many time before.
My friends are mostly conservative - birds of a feather flock together. And I’m noticing anti-Trump grumbling from them.
Are they shallow? Maybe. The threat from Iran might be significant, but it’s a distant theoretical thing to most people. The price on a gas station’s sign, that’s a real and immediate thing.
I don’t think this will cause any of my friends to pull the D lever. It’s the squishy folks in the middle who concern me.
How many pallets of cash should he sent to Iran so they would promise not to build a nuclear weapon or close the Strait? You think that does not affect the price of oil? Did you think this change would be a cake walk?
Price gouging causes inflation jumps 6% media mun.
Oil.
"The average national price for regular gasoline in the United States is $4.511 per gallon as of May 13, 2026. This figure represents a recent increase, with prices rising by approximately 25 cents over the previous two weeks.
Of course in California: As of May 12, 2026, the average price for regular gasoline in California is $6.153 per gallon, according to AAA.
” It’s the squishy folks in the middle who concern me.”
They determine elections and right now Trump/GOP is in major doo-doo.
I was shocked by the high prices on practically every item in my local supermarket, here in Los Angeles. Almost overnight, huge increases. A 7 oz jar of instant coffee, $15.99. One example of too many to count.
If Freepers are wavering regarding Trump we must realize that this is serious...
My BIL drives a Deisel truck for work and he says the cost of gas alone has management considering shutting down...
