~The FReeper Canteen Presents~ Road Trip: USCG Base Elizabeth City, North Carolina
Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City is a United States Coast Guard Air Station co-located at Elizabeth City Regional Airport in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, along the Pasquotank River near the opening of the Albemarle Sound. The base has a garrison of approximately 855 officers and enlisted. The Coast Guard air station is also one of the busiest in the U.S. Coast Guard, operating missions as far away as Greenland, the Azores and the Caribbean.

Coast Guard Air Station (CGAS) Elizabeth City is one of several commands located on the campus of the Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City. The base complex houses the Aviation Technical Training Center (ATTC) (a headquarters level command which trains enlisted Coast Guardsmen in aviation ratings in "A" Schools and advanced "C" Schools), the Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) and Station Elizabeth City, the small boat search and rescue station.
The Base staff maintains 800 acres of real estate, including runways and taxiways, roadways, and buildings, personnel reporting unit that maintains pay and personnel records for all local Coast Guard members, provides transportation and logistics support, and medical and dental services for active duty personnel, approximately 500 dependents and 700 military retirees in the area.
Base Elizabeth City also provides military healthcare including sick call, physicals, and dental at the on-board clinic, as well as emergency services with a staffed 24 hours a day Fire and Police Department (ambulance service is provided by local EMS). Base Fire & Police Departments, staffed by a mix of civilian GS positions and active duty members, frequently respond to off-base emergencies supporting local agencies on various types of incidents.
The missions of CGAS Elizabeth City include search and rescue (SAR), Maritime Law enforcement, International Ice Patrol, aids to navigation support (such as operating lighthouses), and marine environmental protection (such as responding to oil spills).
Currently, CGAS Elizabeth City maintains and operates five HC-130J Hercules aircraft and four MH-60T Jayhawk helicopters.

Carry The Load
youtube.com/watch?v=zRchzK7w9P
When I first began writing this song, I wanted it to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice — including not only those lost in combat, but also those who survived the battlefield and later lost their lives to the wounds of war after coming home. I had most of the first verse and parts of the second written before I realized what the title needed to be: “Carry the Load.” Carry The Load is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to restoring the true meaning of Memorial Day. Once that title came to me, the song took on even deeper meaning.
I wanted it to begin in a slow, somber, reflective place, then gradually rise into something bigger — an anthem of remembrance, honor, and resolve. That is why there is repetition throughout the chorus and bridge; I wanted those lines to feel like something people could hold onto and carry with them. At the same time, I knew the second verse needed to stay grounded in grief and reflection also. The result is a song that lives between sorrow and strength — a heavy-hearted remembrance of sacrifice, and a call to never forget those who gave everything.
Comments below the video:
“My dad, grandfather and uncles all fought in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. Dad was a Tank driver under Gen. Patton. I thank them and all servicemen and women for their sacrifices.”
“Thank you to all the veterans and all currently serving. You are seen and greatly appreciated.”

Glad to hear it! There were some pretty nasty storms around the area.
Things are good here though we could use some rain. What moved through TN last night stayed well north of here. *sigh*
Are you going to head east while you’re off or are you saving that for later in the year?

Howdy, PRO.
How was your weekend? Still roasting or are y’all getting a little break? Still on the cool side here but only for a few more days. I’ll be joining luvie in whining about the heat. LOL

Hey there, radu & PRO!
Yes, I did sit out for a while. Grey and Dottie walked all over, and Buffy got in my lap for a pet or two. Didn’t stay out terribly long, but I might after I feed the kitties. Luckily, even with our high temps, deserts cool down at night, so maybe I can a bit more till it’s really summertime.
That 100 degrees this Friday has me melting already. LOL!
