This is Robert Morris, the richest man in America in 1776.

He literally bankrupted himself using his vast personal fortunate, shipping fleet, and fiscal acumen to pay for the American Revolution.

AOC is stupid.

Extract from AOC quote:

Quote End Wokeness @EndWokeness · May 8 "The American Revolution was against the billionaires of their time" - AOC Readers added context Robert Morris, considered the richest man in America at the time, used his own personal wealth to finance much of the American Revolution. The American Revolution was not against the billionaires as AOC claims when the richest man was funding the war.

AOC is stupid.

Extremely stupid! The Revolutionary War against Britain was due to overtaxation without representation. Who was largely affected? The merchants, the rich residents. And she doesn't realize there were no billionaires, maybe a few millionaires. People hate unfair taxation. Except for Democrats of our time; they keep piling on taxes in order to make merchants and regular folks suffer, while frivolously throwing our money in the toilet. We need a revolutionary war against Democrats!

AOC is a dope.

But so is Andrew Follett.

Robert Morris’s did NOT “literally bankrupted himself usinf his vast personal fortunate, shipping fleet, and fiscal acumen to pay for the American Revolution.”

Indeed, if Follett read his own links, he’d find that….

“Meanwhile, Morris began to suffer personal financial problems. Lawsuits plagued him and forced him into bankruptcy. He turned increasingly to land speculation to recoup his fortune but suffered losses, especially when war in Europe ruined the market for land. The company he ran collapsed. The Panic of 1797 left Morris selling his household furniture at public auction. All he had left in his once elegant Philadelphia home was some bedding, some clothing, a few bottles of wine, and kitchen supplies like sugar coffee and flour. Morris hoped to evade angry creditors by moving to his country estate, but his creditors caught up with him. In the end, he was arrested and imprisoned for debt from February 1798 until August 1801.

Don’t forget Haym.
October 17, 1781. An eerie silence takes hold over the battlefield outside Yorktown, Virginia. After weeks of non-stop artillery shells and rifle fire, the rhythmic pounding of a drum is all that is heard. Through the wispy smoke that floats above the battlefield, a British officer can be seen waving a white flag. General Cornwallis has surrendered Yorktown, ending the last major battle of the American Revolution. The surrender of Yorktown and the nearly 8,000 British troops convinced the British Parliament to start negotiating an end to the war. On September 3, 1783, the treaty of Paris was signed. The war was over.

If not for Haym Salomon, however, the decisive victory at Yorktown never would have happened.

I read an historian’s comparison the new rich of Charleston planters to the silicon valley rich and how the British and their army hated them for their prosperity.

Midsummer 1781, Washington’s troops were not in a good mood.

They hadn’t been paid and Washington didn’t have the funds to get them to Yorktown.

Morris’ money, credit and very creative financing made it happen. The ships of this Philadelphia merchant prince ranged from London to China.

Absent his mishandling of funds in the late 1780’s he would have been our first Sec Treasury instead of Hamilton.

He died in poverty in 1806.

So ignorant.

Robert Morris has an entire Philadelphia street named for him. Here's where Morris St crosses the main north-south thoroughfare, Broad Street:

Another generous financier in Philadelphia also impoverished himself supporting the Revolution, Haym Salomon. He is honored with an historic marker on North 4th Street:

More importantly, her followers dont and her advisors know that. Whether she is or isnt is often times irrelevant, what the handlers project them to be for those voters is all that matters.
