Gov. Greg Abbott’s office notified Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen to cancel the “DFW Epic Eid Celebration,” a Muslim event to be held at the city-owned Epic Waters Indoor Water Park.
The Public Safety Office (PSO) sent the letter to Jensen on Wednesday regarding the event celebrating the major Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha. ...
“Epic Waters is owned by the City and managed by a third-party operator,” the City of Grand Prairie said in a Tuesday statement. “Like other City-owned facilities, it is available for rental by individuals and organizations.”
The city said they have been in contact with the Epic Waters management team to “ensure all policies and procedures have been followed.”
In a May 6 post on social media, Abbott called the event “religious discrimination” and “unconstitutional.”
“The first hint that the broader public is not really welcome, however, is language explaining that any women wishing to attend must wear ‘burkinis,’” the PSO letter said. “The organizer’s website makes matters clearer, stating that ‘[t]his event is closed to the general public’ and ‘at all times’ attendees must ‘dress in accordance with Islamic values.’”
“If there were any doubt remaining, the website dispels it: ‘The entire waterpark has been exclusively reserved for Muslims,’” the PSO letter stated.
“The City must cancel the event and commit to never allowing something like it again by May 11th, or lose $530,000 in state grants,” Abbott said. “Let this be a lesson to local officials: Facilities funded by ALL taxpayers are not just for a subset of Texans.”
Brandon Waltens of Texas Scorecard posted on social media: “Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen tells me he is ‘not about to try and guess what will satisfy the Governor,” adding that the city has “not said whether the event will be canceled.” ...

FWIW: Eid al-Adha is 1 of the 2 most important Islamic holy days. It commemorates the annual, 5-day pilgrimage to Mecca, Hajj, that all Muslims are commanded to make at least once in their lifetime if able.

Evening of Sun, Feb 7, 2027 – Mon, Mar 8, 2027...hell, you boys got something to look forward to.
Two ways to retaliate non violently against Muslims are:
- Play Christian songs out in the public whenever Muslims are meeting
- Have Hot Dog/pork stands everywhere!
Groups reserve city parks every day. Religious groups, schools, political groups, businesses and even families for the 2 year old birthday party. And when you reserve a park - you are entitled to use that solely for your enjoyment.
Naturally I’m no fan of Mad Mo or his muzzie followers, but I’m not seeing a difference here in their attempt to reserve a park.
Would a local business be denied if they reserved a day and also closed the park to employees only?
Non-gays are permitted to attend Gay Days at Disney World, as the event is open to everyone, including families and friends of LGBTQ individuals. It is an unofficial gathering that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
But not entitled to force the employees to adhere to someone else's religious standards.
I just don’t see where any real “diversity & inclusion” really enters the picture. Same goes for Muslim events. Face it; they just don’t fit in with American principles.
