The national retail average for a regular gallon of gas was $4.457 on Monday. That's a 1-cent increase from Sunday, according to the American Automobile Association, and 35 cents more than last Monday. At this time last year, a gallon of gas was $1.29 cheaper.
The surging prices seemed to stabilize or even decrease for about two weeks, following a temporary ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran that has been indefinitely extended.
However, the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route where roughly a fifth of the world's oil passes, has effectively remained closed or extremely limited to passage due to dueling blockades by both countries. This volatility has greatly disrupted the global oil markets.
The main uncertainty for the global economy is where oil prices are heading because of the Iran war. Oil prices spurted higher early this week on worries that the war will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed for a long time. That would, in turn, keep oil tankers pent up in the Persian Gulf instead of delivering crude to customers worldwide.

AZ prices under Biden were just as high.
We need to finish this.
This list also matches 4 of the 5 states with the HIGHEST gasoline taxes in the nation.
Surprised?
Most of Illinois seems to be at $4.99 per gallon. The combined state, local and federal taxes at $0.99 per gallon at that point. Higher gas prices are good business for governments with % taxes on gas.
We ain’t done yet. Oil hit $117 a barrel today.
We ain’t done yet. Oil hit $117 a barrel today.
Assuming the reason prices here are so high is because it’s a world market & OPEC seems to be calling the shots. Why can’t we use U.S. oil& gas with established prices right here? I always heard we have enough oil for our country & then some.
I was told higher gas prices makes us a lot of money. Wanting lower gas prices is TDS.
Wow how the Patriots suffer….
He campaigned on keeping us out of foreign wars. He make a big part of the campaign high gas prices under Biden. Am I wrong to wonder if Israel has something on him to make him govern like this?
As far as gasoline purchases go, I usually go to town on Tuesdays to run errands. If I need to fill up, I fill up on a Tuesday. That way, whether the price is high or low, I’m ‘dollar cost averaging’ the same way you invest the same amount of $ in the market each month, high or low.
Works for me, and keeps me SANE when things all around me are INSANE. My ‘summer car’ is a VW Golf and she gets a good 30+ MPG, so that helps.
I also agree with the poster that said, ‘Let’s Finish This!’
I WISH TO POINT OUT:
NONE OF TODAY’S DRIVERS HAD TO DEAL WITH “RATIONING” In WW II AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS.
COMPLAINING ABOUT THE COST OF THE WAR???
THE COST OF THE LOSS OF THE WORLD TRADE CENTER & DAMAGE TO THE PENTAGON ALONE WAS $55-60 BILLION.
IRAN IS BENT ON DESTROYING THE USA.THEN YOU WILL NOT BE BUYING ANY GASOLINE AT ANY PRICE.
Surprised Maryland wasn’t on there….yet.
Station nearest me was 4.59 last night.
An actual town with a grocery store is 20 miles away and my car sucks gas bad so pretty much stuck here until I’m absolutely out of everything.
It’s become cheaper or the same to use that instacart thing.
Praying it ends soon.
CALIF STATE TAXES===62.577 CENTS PER GALLON RIGHT NOW.
THEY ARE DISCUSSING ADDING A 9 CENT A MILE MILEAGE TAX.
IF YOUR CAR GETS 30 MILES TO A GALLON:===$2.70 MORE
THAT WOULD RAISE CALIF GAS TAXES TO :$3.32577 A GALLON-—JUST THE TAXES
Alaska makes sense because, you know, we don’t have any oil up here...They should get rid of the Perm Fund and refine our own oil and sell it in Alaska for a reduced price. Export whatever is left over to other states first, then countries.
It has been very close to 5 dollars here in Indiana. People are getting very irritated with it.
Global commercial oil storage reached approximately 1.07 billion barrels by the end of March 2026. This reflects a significant increase from 923.1 million barrels at the start of the year
