The Trump administration is arguing that the war in Iran has already ended because of the ceasefire that began in early April, an interpretation that would allow the White House to avoid the need to seek congressional approval…
While the ceasefire has since been extended, Iran maintains its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz, and the U.S. Navy is maintaining a blockade to prevent Iran’s oil tankers from getting out to sea...
Under the War Powers Resolution, the law that sought to constrain a president’s military powers, President Donald Trump had until Friday to seek congressional authorization or cease fighting. The law also allows an administration to extend that deadline by 30 days...
“That deadline is not a suggestion; it is a requirement,” said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who voted Thursday in favor of a measure that would end military action in Iran since Congress hadn’t given its approval…

I hope that’s (mostly) true, because many in congress from both parties, have been waiting to bring the congressional hammer down on funding this war as soon as they are permitted.
Trump is just playing the same word games that Obama used when he also violated the 1973 War Powers Resolution.
Claiming a cease fire restarts the clock while still daily maintaining a military blockade fools nobody.
> The Trump administration is arguing that the war in Iran has already ended… <
That’s a clever approach. And it’s also nonsense, for no other reason than there is still a US naval blockade in place. But hey, Congress might buy it anyway. After all, Congress hates to take responsibility for anything.
So I’m guessing they’ll just punt the ball.
“Claiming a cease fire restarts the clock while still daily maintaining a military blockade fools nobody.”
Exactly! The U.S. Navy is still interdicting ships, sometimes in international waters.
If a foreign country were blockading U.S. ports, it would obviously be an act of war.
I think Congress might just let Trump carry on with his Iran War.
They may ascribe to the idea “when your enemy is busy destroying himself....”
Oil over $100 / bbl. is doing a great job of destroying Republicans’ chances this fall
Does anybody in the Trump Admin actually understand this?
If the Democrats get the House back, it’s 24-7 impeachments!!!
But then, restart another sixty days ...
The Democrats have been at war with America since Obama got elected. When is Susan Collins going to do something about that?
“ Exactly! The U.S. Navy is still interdicting ships, sometimes in international waters.”
Naa, those navy guys are just on an extended cruise checking out the waters in the Persian gulf.
Gas jumped to $4.50/gal today in SE Wisconsin where I live. Not good, and I hope it goes down soon.
Trump puts the "brink" in "brinksmanship". :)
It looks like DJT might cut our losses here and leave the table.
I'm perfectly okay with this.
DJT: "But you have heard of me."
Gas here in Los Angeles is $6.39 and up.
Trump just said Iran can play in the World Cup.
Only stupid voters who usually don’t bother anyway.
Gas is still cheaper than in 2022-2023.
I pay no attention to people holding $1200 phones while drinking an $8 latte and driving a $ 60K car whining about gas prices.
I think itis unconstitutional because a previous congress claims to change the US constitution future a congress must obey.
