Thousands of Palisades and Eaton fire rebuilding permits approved after Trump’s executive order

President Trump’s executive order to fast-track the rebuilding of Los Angeles after the wildfires has resulted in almost 2,000 permits approved since it was signed in January, The Post can exclusively reveal.

Trump’s order let state and local rules be preempted when it came to obtaining permits and allowed builders to “self-certify” that they have complied with “substantive health, safety and building standards.”

The result of the administration’s take over was the approval of thousands of permits for people to begin the rebuilding process of homes and businesses ravaged by the January 2025 Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires, two of the most destructive blazes in LA history.

“President Trump’s January Executive Order was a bold move to break through the non-federal logjams that had held up lives, homes, and entire neighborhoods from being rebuilt. Since that EO, we’ve helped drive nearly 2,000 permit approvals,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin told The Post.

Los Angeles County has issued 971 permits since executive order was signed – which is a 72% increase – and Los Angeles City has issued 961 permits since then – a 58% increase, the EPA revealed to The Post.

Trump tasked EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin with carrying out the order as it was the Environmental Protection Agency that cleaned up all the hazardous materials left in the wake of the deadly blaze.

“Lee is so competent,” Trump told The Post at the time.

However, Governor Gavin Newsom’s Office doesn’t see the progress as a win for Trump — patting themselves on the back for the recent developments despite months of stalling.

This will make a huge difference for thousands of California residents. Not one of whom will vote for Trump.

The POTUS has to step in with an EO just so people can rebuild their homes that were burnt to a cinder because of state water and other mismanagement.

THAT, is a damned crying shame. SMH

The Permits issue is just one bump in the road. TPTB in CA will find other reasons to keep homes from being built.

“Don’t be surprised if you start hearing stories about city inspectors knit picking the sht out of every little thing.”

At least in my county in rural Florida, I can hire an independent inspector, and they’ll work with me to resolve any issues. The county guys just fail me and write me a fine. It’s worth the few hundred an independent inspector charges not to have to deal with the horrible, nasty attitude of the county inspectors.

Out there it’ll be about punishing the homeowner’s as much as possible.

It’s obvious the state and county have no interest in helping these people rebuild.

And then you have the california coastal commission.

If you don’t know what that body is do the research.

It’s basically a nazi SS level HOA that refuses to let anybody do anything because it might impact the earth negatively.

Not one of whom will vote for Trump.

In what election would they ever get the opportunity?

Now... if they chose to vote for Steve Hilton, that would be nice.

“...allowed builders to “self-certify” that they have complied with “substantive health, safety and building standards.”

I can’t see any harm in that. Builders are trustworthy folks.

Can’t wait to see what happens to the new buildings after the first earthquake.

The county wants the homes rebuilt as quick as possible because they get the full property tax assessment.

The problem is that the building codes in LA County are pretty rigorous because of all the seismic activity.

By ignoring the codes, the homes are likely going to be destroyed during the next big earthquake.

Sorry Gavin, my president* decided to overrule you, because of your mismanagement. If you were a leader, you'd have a rebuilt LA County.

Of course, with the TDS you have, you aren't a leader.

*And psst, Gavin and all LIBERALS, President Trump is your PRESIDENT too. He's not a King...

30-40 years ago, my brother was building a house on a small acreage he had purchased. The family was living in a travel trailer until they got the basement finished enough to move in. A county inspector tried to fine them for “camping” on their own property.

It was crazy.

The Florida state capital is Tallahassee and the county is Leon. We call it The People’s Republic of Leon County. The city and the county have “self funded” departments. The building department and a county and city EPA. The building department had staffed up for the 2008 housing bubble. After it burst the manger told the inspectors that if they wanted a job they’d have to go out and write fines. A developer told me that he added ten percent to every bid to cover the fines. Meanwhile, the two EPA’s, whose employees wear police-like uniforms, carry guns and badges, have such voluminous rules to enforce that they can start at one end of the street and go house-to-house writing fines. After a run-in with the building department, I sold my house and moved my business to a more rural county to the south.

Local “zoning” departments are some of the most tyrannical structures in the USA.
