Two men armed with assault rifles robbed a Brinks truck and got away with cash Tuesday morning, Philadelphia police say.
Police said officers responded to the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue around 9:45 a.m. for a robbery in progress.
Police sources said a car pulled up in a parking lot, two armed masked suspects jumped out and robbed a Brinks truck that was making a stop at a check-cashing business.
Surveillance photos from a nearby camera show two men dressed in black, wearing masks, running out of a blue car. The person in the front appears to be pointing an assault rifle.
A police spokesperson said the suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. A police source said the amount of money taken could be up to $1.8 million.
What started as a typical morning for Karina Torres at her Dunkin' job quickly turned to panic. The Brink truck robbery happened across the street.
"It is crazy just to see how it happened within seconds, within seconds," Torres said. "It's sad. When the cops came, that's when they said, 'We need to see the cameras.'"
Images from Chopper 3 showed Torresdale Avenue blocked off just south of Cottman Avenue. Several police vehicles were on the scene and the armored truck was in the area behind yellow caution tape.

I always thought Brinks Truck drivers would be armed or traveling with someone who was armed.
I guess not so.
Not to profile but ……?
Joey Coyle suggests they give it back.

At least one of the perps appears to have Caucasian skin above his mask around his eyes.
Judge will let’em off for good behavior post robbery.
Main thing that’s across the street from the Dunkin in the 7200 block of Torresdale Ave. is a SEPTA bus depot. It’s pretty big. Looks like the truck was robbed right in front of the outdoor passenger waiting area.
Inside job?
I'd bank on it.
badum tish
i see these “armored” trucks loading and unloading money all the time: back doors open, “guards” standing around; to me, it all looked like a big “security” snow job of ... anybody could surreptitiously follow one of these trucks around for a a while and pick a good spot to hold the truck up when money was being wheeled in or out ...
I don’t know about how smart these guys were.
They used a small hatch back for the heist.
The article said the police estimate that they got up to 1.8 million
I don’t see that fitting into the car shown unless that got all $100 bills.
They also swapped cars under an Interstate bridge. Could be smart or dumb depending on how heavily the road is trafficked.
But they did seem to have a detailed plan. Maybe even did a dry run.
“… Karina Torres at her Dunkin’ job…”
I’m surprised the dozen cops sitting at the counter of this doughnut shop didn’t run across the street and stop this robbery…..
Must’ve been those Darn Amish again !
Hillary Clinton issued a statement. She said all the suspects looked alike !
So? The first armored car robbery(1927) was done by planting an explosive mine in the road and blew the car open as it rolled over it. No As-s-sault rifles used that I can find.
