The Obama Presidential Center is finally here. Prepare to pay up.

CHICAGO—Barack Obama’s new presidential center isn’t a cheap date, and neither is his adopted hometown.

When it opens June 19, it will set at least three modern-era records for a former White House occupant: time taken to be completed, project cost and the price to get inside.

At $30, adult admission to see the 44th president’s story is more than at any other U.S. presidential library, a Wall Street Journal review shows. That is 59% higher than the average for presidents from John F. Kennedy through George W. Bush......

Still, the GOP should tread cautiously. One of their own isn’t far behind: a ticket to the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, Calif., costs $29.

The Obama center’s opening is roughly five years behind what was originally planned after preservationists and activists slowed construction in court. Pandemic-related disruptions also slowed construction.

The project’s urban environment created additional costs and complexities, as did Obama’s 2016 decision to locate the center in a park listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The site triggered multiple federal reviews and legal challenges.

Presidential libraries opened in recent decades in about half the time as this one, Wall Street Journal calculations show. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library opened just more than 1,000 days after he left office. Bill Clinton’s took 1,398 days. The libraries of George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush averaged 1,653 days. Obama’s is set for 3,437 days.

Obama’s center won’t technically be a library. Instead, his foundation is paying $5 million to support digitizing millions of pages of unclassified records for online use. It will be run by the foundation rather than the National Archives and Records Administration, the federal agency that traditionally operates the libraries and museums.

I've been to Reagan's, Nixon's, and Truman's, doubt the Obama monstrosity will be on my bucket list.

When do the graffiti take over? Lots of space. Graffiti would actually make it more attractive.

My fearless prediction: Nearby liberal school boards will use taxpayer money to send kids there on field trips.

The next generation must pay homage to the Dear Leader!

as far as i am concerned, of the presidentiaL libraries/centers opening this year, it’s that of
Theodore Roosevelt that attracts me - in the Badlands.
now THAT was a president!

The ONLY reason to celebrate "Juneteenth"...

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were executed on June 19, 1953, for conspiracy to pass atomic secrets to the Soviet Union

No doubt there will be a section of Barry’s many male lovers: Larry Sinclair, Reggie Love, Rahm Emanuel, Donald Young, Larry Bland, and Nate Spencer, etc.

Another section will feature Sasquatch bigfoot sightings, with portraits of Big Mike in the White House.

Every school in the Chicagoland area will have a field trip there.

I hope they put this picture up, and caption it correctly.

Racially discounted admission pricing part of it?

$30 to see Nixon’s would be worth every nickel... To see Obama’s... Not so much so. His only true accomplishment... Obamacare witch passed with no Republican votes and is today generally regarded as a failure.

His foreign policy was a complete disaster, even though it was essentially orchestrated by Hillary Clinton, so he didn’t have much to do with it.

Giving up the Crimea, bombing Libya into oblivion, drawing a line in the sand in Syria that Putin immediately jumped over, losing an ambassador, etc... It was a complete failure.

He can’t talk about his slave roots... He doesn’t have any and the only connection he may have was his mother’s side of the family who were owners, rather than slaves themselves.

Obama is the Chauncey Gardiner of American Presidents... He was there... But there is more to the job than just ‘Being There’.

Read that again, slowly.

Rather, “Orwellian”, in a very literal way, yes?

“At $30, adult admission to see the 44th president’s story is more than at any other U.S. presidential library”. I’d pay $30 if I could take a giant dump in front of the magic one’s portrait. The thing looks like a multi-story outhouse anyway.

The article fails to mention that a government photo ID is required to gain entrance.
