The Speaker of Iran's Parliament has declared the opening of the Strait of Hormuz null and void. In a tweet posted on X, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused President Trump of violating the deal opening the Strait of Hormuz and said the Strait is now closed.
"With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open."
Meanwhile, CENTCOM said today they will continue the blockade until Trump tells them not to. https://t.co/1zFz6q3MVt— Natasha Bertrand (@NatashaBertrand) April 17, 2026

Ghalibaf claimed:
1- The President of the United States made seven claims in one hour, all seven of which were false.
2- They did not win the war with these lies, and they will certainly not get anywhere in negotiations either.
3- With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open.
What he's referring to is the U.S. Central Command announcement that the blockade is continuing:

They are also miffed at USCENTCOM's publication of a list of contraband products and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine's statement on Thursday that U.S. forces will pursue blockade runners out of the USCENTCOM area of operations.
The U.S. reserves the right to search any Iranian vessels, sanctioned vessels and ships suspected of carrying a list of contraband items, according to a Thursday notice to mariners from U.S. Central Command.
Contraband items include weapons, ammunition, explosives and military equipment, the notice reads. Conditional contraband –meaning contraband for aiding Iran’s military operations – includes crude oil, nuclear material, metals and machinery. A full list is included in the blockade update.
To that end, the U.S. will pursue ships outside of the U.S. Central Command area of response, Chief of the Joint Staff Gen. Dan Caine told reporters Thursday.
SHOW OF FORCE: Gen. Dan Caine details the reality for ships attempting to defy the U.S. blockade: comply, or prepare for the use of force.
"Immediately these runners began to see, sense and feel America's combat power, compressing upon them."
"Do not attempt to breach the the blockade... Turn around or prepare to be boarded. If you do not comply with this blockade, we will use force.""Those ship masters can literally see, sense and feel the pressure around them."

To be fair, I don't know what this Ghalibaf fellow does when he's up and has his trousers on, and I don't know how big a stick he swings in a government that has gone through more heads of state in the last six weeks than Elizabeth Taylor had husbands. He has the most significant official Iranian social media presence, so I assume someone pays attention to him.
While we don't know what has been discussed between U.S. and Iranian negotiators, I think we can be fairly certain that the CJCS would not unilaterally announce a policy that ran counter to something agreed to by Vice President Vance's team and the Iranians.
We'll know within 24 hours whether this guy is real or make-believe. We're seeing with increasing frequency Iranian officials playing to a domestic audience by announcing things that are manifestly not true while behaving like a whipped cur dog in private.
Because President Trump has made the opening of the Strait of Hormuz a signature accomplishment (Trump Cheers Strait of Hormuz Reopening During Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire — but There’s a Big Catch – RedState), we can be sure he will not let any change of terms and conditions go unanswered; see Trump Puts Left on Notice: 'This Administration Does Not Apologize for American Power' – RedState.

It’s not their strait to close. Never was, never will be.
Time to blow some bridges and power plants.
Galibaf Needs an Attitude Adjustment.
Time to violate Ghalibaf’s head with a sizeable U.S. made missile.
He has played enough stupid games, time to give him his prize.
Knock yourselves out morons.
I wonder: Is Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf actually Baghdad Bob?
Art of The Dead,
It’s What Plant’s Crave!
LOL
1. I would suggest we write down on a piece of paper what we want and we actually have during the negotiations.
2. Tell them the bombing campaign resumes immediately.
3. Tell them we do not give a damn what Israel does to Hezbollah in Lebanon nor to Iran with the exception of the oil industry as we may take it for ourselves.
4. I would suggest the bombing campaign be initially confined to just a couple of provenience and give it total destruction of anything industrial. No electricity, no water, no gasoline nor diesel, no transportation, no food due to lack of transportation and inform Iran that this destruction is what will happen to all of Iran in 3 days. Tehran is next. A great city as Theran is would become a jungle of violence in just a few days.
5. We are now going on vacation in the Maldives. They have great beaches. We will not call you. We will answer your call when you agree to said terms.
6. You must admit our pilots are A+ merchants of destruction. They can also be A+ merchants of death, if so ordered. We have not done that yet.
PS
I lived in Iran as a kid and it was during the time of The Shah. It was good duty for my family. The vast majority of the Iranians are good people. The problem is the religious fanatical theocracy at the top. Their number one victim has been their own people followed by their world wide terrorism. It saddens me for what their people have suffered and continue to suffer.
RE: I wonder: Is Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf actually Baghdad Bob?
These civilian negotiators the USA is dealing with ARE NOT the real ultimate decision makers. It is WHOEVER HOLDS THE WEAPONS that’s the ultimate power, and that’s .... THE IRGC and whoever commands it.
Ghalibaf speaks only when the IRGC allows him to and he better watch his back as well.
It’s called “procrastination” and Iran is full of it.
