Tuesday on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said the evidence that Iran was an imminent threat to the United States was not there.
Co-host Joe Kernen said, “You have such a tough job. I asked Senator Scott, and he said, I love Senator Paul because you never waver, but everybody wavers. I was going to ask you about war powers, and the Constitution is messy, and to stick with it as you do in the real world, it’s hard. I don’t know why you even have this job. It must be so difficult at this point for you, right? It’s a pain.”
Paul said, “If not me, who will do it? Somebody needs to do it. And people say, ‘Oh, be on the team.’ There’s enough people on the team. There needs to be somebody not on the team on occasion who says, ” You know what, we have to vote on the initiation of war, it’s our obligation. And that’s what our founders put in there, because they didn’t want all the power in one person.”
Kernen said, “Right, but you look at how many times, you know, the War Powers Act was essentially violated, you wonder why people say, well, it was, you know, Libya, Kosovo, all these other things. It just seems like, de facto, it’s not relevant anymore or something.”
Paul said, “The interesting thing about the War Powers Act is it’s misreported all the time. It’s misreported it as a reporting, requirement that after 60 days, the president needs to report. Well, people don’t read the whole War Powers Act. War Powers Act only says there’s three instances when a president can go to war, a declaration by Congress, use of authorization of force by Congress or an imminent threat.”

He’s getting dumber every day.
The fact that Iran showed they could launch a long-range missile, and have it hit 2,500 miles away shows they’re just a bunch of pussy cats, and not a threat to anyone. Go back to bed Rand. You’re useless.
Death to Rand Paul?
I’m surprised his little foreign buddy RandFan didn’t post this.
Terrorists are always an imminent threat.
No evidence of Rand Paul having a brain. Or at least using it if one is found in his possession.
Iran insists still...
But you see, Rand, when Iran eventually does acquire nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them, it will be far too late to do anything then.
This clown is running for President. He will pick up the Qatarlson faction for starters.
The missiles they shot thousands of miles are evidence of the threat.
Does Iran still believe in Death to SoConPubbie?
They had so many of these missile that were able to saturate the collective missile defense systems of the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia , UAE, while still holding thousands in reserve.
The US has depleted our advanced Patriot and especially our THAADS interceptors. Israel is pretty much getting tapped out of interceptors and is making hard decisions on what they should or should not intercept.
Even after and while getting hammered by the US and Israel's best efforts the Iranians were able to do serious damage to the Arab oil and water infrastructure.
Iran was also collaborating with Russia, China and North Korea to build intercontinental ballistic missiles booster capable of hitting the US.
Had any of these Iranian missiles had nuclear warheads they could have wiped out Israel and the Middle East
You have to be brain dead to think that Iran posed not threat.
Too bad. He’s remarkably stupid for being so smart. Little man, big ego.
It’s ironic that the former eye doctor is so blind.
If Congress would back Trump’s Iran war it would be over much quicker. Iran is stalling as much as they can and I have no doubt they are aware of and hoping for Trump to lose political backing.
Paul would have a point if he wasn’t completely wrong. Standing on principle is just virtue signalling stupidity when the principle is groundless.
Shut up, Rand. Focus on Fauci.
“And I don’t think the evidence is there that there was an imminent threat that would allow the president to go to war on his own.”
Questions: How many ballistic missiles does a county have to have to make it an imminent threat?
How many ballistic missiles - exactly - did Iran have before this conflict started? How many do they have now?
How many drones did Iran have?
How far does a ballistic missile have to travel to be an imminent threat?
Rand Paul has said some things I like. Lately he has been way off base.
