A Chinese-owned tanker under U.S. sanctions has passed the Strait of Hormuz despite the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports that began on Monday.
Citing data from Kpler and MarineTraffic, Reuters reported that the vessel had traversed the chokepoint earlier today. Owned by Shanghai Xuanrun Shipping Co Ltd., the vessel, Rich Starry, became a target for U.S. sanctions because it was used to transport Iranian crude.

FAKE NEWS: There is no blockade of the Straight of Hormuz.
There is a blockade of Iranian ports.
If this ship did not go to the ports or is leaving empty (or loaded prior to the blockade), it’s free to sail along.
“The Rich Starry is loaded with 250,000 barrels of methanol that it loaded at the Emirati port of Hamriyah, according to the data.
It could be that fact that has ensured the unobstructed passage of the vessel, despite the sanctions.
The U.S. Central Command said the blockade would only cover Iranian ports and traffic to and from them.”
AIS data from Pole Star Global shows Rich Starry, a tanker falsely flying the Malawi flag, abruptly turning north and heading back towards the Strait of Hormuz instead of continuing into the Arabian Sea. Its movements appear to support a US blockade being held outside of the Arabian Gulf, allowing US naval vessels to interdict merchant ships further from the threat of Iranian attack.
How many times are we going to hear this ? It departed a port from the UAE, not Iran. The media wants people to believe Trump had ordered a blanket blockade across the strait but it’s not so. Only ships inbound to and outbound from Iran.
“Rich Starry is a medium-range tanker that is carrying about 250,000 barrels of methanol, according to the data. It loaded the cargo at its last port of call, the UAE’s Hamriyah, the data showed.”
So, no, they didn’t run the blockade, which applies to Iranian ports. Of course, the Daily Fail then equates ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz and ships docking at Iranian ports.
<>FAKE NEWS: There is no blockade of the Straight of Hormuz.
There is a blockade of Iranian ports.<>
Agree. The Fake News is all over FreeRepublic and legacy lying media.
In the article: The Rich Starry is loaded with 250,000 barrels of methanol that it loaded at the Emirati port of Hamriyah, according to the data
So the vessel did not go to an Iranian port therefore wasn't affected by the blockade.
Well, won’t be much of a blockade if we don’t shoot blockade runners going into, or coming out of, Iranian ports.
Why did you post this article? The story has been posted several times over the past two days, and debunked each time.
Up the tariff on China 5% for each tanker that passes. Do we really need Chinese crap?
Good gosh, don’t tell them that! How else are the Leftists going to pleasure themselves today?
I admire you, norcal joe. You are a very polite person.
Am I supposed to give a sh!t about news without actual sources or some kind of proof?
Once more the headline readers don’t get the truth contained in the narrative that follows.
Good thing this boat was loaded at the UAE.
According to AIS trackers, the Rich Starry is currently in Iranian waters in the strait, headed north. Of course, AIS can be spoofed...
The writer of this story is attempting to mislead readers by conflating sanctions with blockade. The USN isn’t there to enforce sanctions, it is there to enforce a blockade on Iranian ports. This ship is on a sanction list due to carrying Iranian oil in the past, but the Navy is focusing on the current blockade, not past sanctions violators.
“ Well, won’t be much of a blockade if we don’t shoot blockade runners going into, or coming out of, Iranian ports”
I agree. This was not coming out of an Iranian port.
Sounds like fake news. Watched NBC News tonight, their coverage of the blockade had no word about a Chinese ship running the blockade. If it were true NBC would have loved to headline it.
They must have come to the realization that the blockade only applied to inbound and outbound ships from Iran and quietly backed off. CNN and a few other were all over this earlier today.
