Saudi Sunni. Pakistan Sunni. In the past Saudi Arabia has mused about buying nukes from Wackistan if Shiite Iran gets nukes.

The Sunni vs Shiite forever war since 680AD, when Sunni army offed the son of Ali. Ali was who Shiites pimped as Mo’s legit successor. Sunnis had some other goon in mind.

Sounds like the Pakis are making a strong statement that they will stand with SA and against Iran.

Yes but, there is a large Shia Muslim population in Pakistan (second-largest after Iran).

Pakistan-Iran ties are currently in a pragmatic, functional phase despite the broader war. The relationship benefits from geographic proximity and mutual interest in border stability, but it is constrained by Pakistan’s alliances (especially with Saudi Arabia and the US) and shared security threats.

I see that. The Pakis could have privately given their support to the House of Saud and promised to send troops if needed. But this move is very public and backed with strength.

They are putting their own in harm’s way which is a solid commitment as opposed to a rhetorical promise.

“… and mutual interest in border stability…”

Yes. The Baluchis hate them both, and would make a sizable state if they got their way.

I’ve long thought if the (Nulcear Lion) ever got out of its cage again. It would be India and Pakistan. I don’t like players that have nukes wandering around in conflicts. If the Lion gets out again the breaks are off. IMO

They had plenty of time to listen to negotiations between the US and the psychomullah death cult.
I wouldn’t stand with the psycho death cult either.
The Iranian regime has shown 13 other gulf countries that it’s run by a bunch of psychopaths!

The Pakis are friends with the Chicoms. So is Iran. Who doesn’t hate who?

Paki pilots. What’s to stop a rogue one from shooting at us?

Internal moslem wars between sects is a good method of population control...

Particularly given the horrifically high birth rates of the global moslem population...

Wackistan is 15% Shia, not enough to make a dent.

. . . there is a large Shia Muslim population in Pakistan (second-largest after Iran).

There is . . . and these are the Mosques in Pakistan most often targeted by sectarian violence.

We are seeing some very strange reshuffling of alliances in this part of the world now.

But still enough to cause plenty of trouble. Recall also that Pakistan has exchange gunfire and border clashes with the Taliban in Afghanistan as well. Two different groups of whackos on their borders doesn’t make for a feeling of security.

The base is on the western side of the Persian Gulf.

It would send a stronger message if Pakistan hosted a large KSA force in southwest Pakistan.

Basically, at this point pretty much everyone in the area that isn’t an Iranian puppet or stalking horse is tired of having to deal with Iran. In the post-Abaraham Accords world, it’s become blatantly obvious that Iran is the remaining source of 90+ percent of the problems in the Middle East. Add in what they’ve been doing during the latest installment of the war (Iran has been at war with us since 1979) and everyone just wants them gone.
