Vance to lead US negotiators at first round of Islamabad talks with Iran on Saturday

Vance will be joined by US President Donald Trump’s top envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, press secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a press briefing.

Iran has accused Israel of targeting one of its oil refineries, while Gulf countries reported coming under Iranian drone and missile fire throughout much of Wednesday after Israel was targeted in numerous missile attacks overnight.

And while Pakistani mediators in announcing the ceasefire said that it covered Lebanon, the US and Israel have insisted otherwise and IDF strikes targeting Hezbollah reached levels on Wednesday not seen since the beginning of the war.

Vance claimed a “legitimate misunderstanding” led Iran to believe that Lebanon was covered by the ceasefire.

“What we said is that the ceasefire would be focused on Iran, and… on America’s allies — both Israel and the Gulf Arab states,” Vance claimed.

“That said, the Israelis… offered… to check themselves a little bit in Lebanon because they want to make sure that our negotiation is successful,” he added.

Earlier Wednesday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US of violating three components of a 10-point proposal for long-term peace that Iran submitted on Tuesday and questioned whether planned negotiations are even worthwhile given the circumstances.

I would prefer to see the terrorist regime eliminated.

The fact that the current set of Iranians we'll be negotiating with want Hebollah included in the ceasefire tells me that they are interested in keeping their terror proxy intact so it can continue to conduct terrorist attacks on Israel.

If the current "regime" still has the goal of eliminating Israel, they still have the goal of eliminating the US as well.

So it seems to me that the new boss is same as the old boss.

I suppose I could see some “misunderstanding” on the first day or so of the ceasefire. But if Hormuz stays closed, and if Iran keeps attacking other countries, then it’s not much of a ceasefire.

We were wondering why Trump is sending Vance instead of Rubio. DH thinks that PDJT is trying to equalize the exposure of both of the probable candidates in ‘28. I think he’ll do a fine job.

It’ll be interesting to see how he handles juggling this with the fraud investigation project.

I would have preferred to have seen hellfire and brimstone rain down on the terrorists at 8 pm the other night. Talking with these people is postponing the inevitable; they never tell the truth, and they never don’t want to eliminate US.

Wouldn't it be great if Trump showed up in a live video call from the chair of a powered-up military launch control console at Cape Canaveral? Have a little countdown clock appear on the screen for effect, and when he signs off he says "Thank you for your attention to this matter" as the countdown clock fills the screen.

The mullahs will show up in their dresses and Vance will scold them for showing disrespect and a lack of gratitude.

If Cuba rolls over in the next few weeks, you'll know why.

Seriously, poor JD. I would dread wasting my time away from my family trying to deal with a bunch of mouthy brats with attitudes that won’t get anywhere. And to top it off, doing it all having to be in Pakistan.

Not a good sign. Vance could get too focused on making a deal, any deal, and like Obama, for his own “legacy” and not a worthy deal in the end.

I’m not sure whoever is negotiating from Iran has control over some of the wacko elements in his country

No one in charge of any country has full control of their resident wackos.

However, my concern is that those negotiating are defending Hexbollah, including the Pakistanis relaying messages.

In other words, in my opinion, those we’re negotiating with are the same type of wackos we attacked in the first place.
